Since the beginning of this week, the Angels have officially moved up into the top 10 teams of Belgium. Currently ranked 9th overall, Angels have made a stellar progress starting from the 22nd spot in Belgium. This all happened after Angels biggest comeback victory last Tuesday over their cup opponents BC Artenova. After having a pretty close game till the second quarter, where the score was 26-27, Artenova would go on a 22-2 run to end the 2nd Q on a score of 27 - 48. Many ammongst Angels supporters though that the cup campaign was over... It was one of the rare times that General Manager Revo left his vip box, and went to the lockerroom to scold his players for their humiliating preformance. It seems as if Revo's words help the Angels recover slightely, cause Q3 would be won by 22-16, but that still left them trailing by 15. With 10 minutes to go till the final whistle of the 4th Q at a score of 56-73, everybody was thinking it was over. Except for the Guard duo Corman and Blairon. Corman, who was 0 - 15 at that point, suddenly came alive, making bucket after bucket. And the moment the defence tried to stop Corman, Blairon started dropping 3's. Together, they brought back the team to 69-73, only to see Artenova once again seized control and bring the score back to 69-79 (2.54 minutes left in the game). But Blairon refused to give up, bring the team back with another couple of 3's to even up the score at 83-83 with 29 seconds left on the clock. With 12 seconds to go Artenova got once again the go ahead bucket, but Layous would then dunk how a great feed from Fleeton to make it 86 all and thus sending this game into overtime.
In overtime, Angels, would build up a lead, but Artenova still had some juice and got back in the game with a buzzerbeater of their own to send the game into double overtime. At this point, the Angels bench turned it up a notch, and Artenova had at long last run out of juice.
Many fans were thrilled by the end of the game, saying they never seen such a huge comeback. Coachs and manager Revo were happy with the eventual outcome, tho they still felt pretty uneasy that their offence had been shut down completely for such a long stretch in the game...
Manager Revo:" We've build this team based upon defence, to shut out other teams offence. So that we don't get many highscoring evenings, is something which i can live with. Defence in itself can be very attractive aswell, you should hear the crowd when Gerry ( Fleeton) rejects a shot with his blocking skills. They love it. However, today, we got a number done upon us, where our offence was shut out and our defence just couldn't get any stops... It just goes to show that we still have got work to do, and that we might need a few extra guy's in the team who can get the offense going. As much as defence is needed, if you can't make a bucket, you can't win a game..."
Ottevaere:"It was a very frustrating game. We were getting good looks. We were making the right passes, taking the right shots, but they just wouldn't go in... This said, i'm very happy in the way how the team responded and fought itself back into the game. We had to claw our way back into that 4th Q 3 times. we came back to 10 points, then got pushed back to 16, after which we pulled within 4, only to see our opponent nail some 3's which pushed us back to a 10 point difference with less than 3 minutes on the clock. If you can overcome a 10 point difference in less than 3 minutes, then you've earned the win in my oppinion. We fought hard for it. This game has given us an enormous moral boost, and let's hope we can keep up our great shape from the past few weeks. We've still got a long way to go and the next few games will be very important
