Game Shapes...

It may be a good thing that the game penalizes enthusiasm for dropping people from the national team...

because 2 people dropping from respectable to mediocre in one week is just plain unacceptable, and if it were not for the fact that we still have games to win, they would have been cut immediately following the game.

Well, we certainly learned a couple things about the national team from its performance in the Thailand game.

One thing is certain, Japan needs a better system for identifying and training its young talent. I have seen 2/3 players as the U21 coach who should be on this team, and they are nowhere to be found.

That said, we look forward to our next game and a chance to right the ship. Its still time left in the group play, time to see if some new young stars can emerge to replace the old guard.

Try going back to the old games and you should find the players on the box scores. Hopefully they are still active.

I may be to blame for telling you to believe in our youth.

Certain vets are still our best players, specifically Suenami at SF. Kamio and Oishi can fill in against the right opponent, if you can get a good scouting, but all around Suenami is(was) still best. Of course I can't see how the training has gone in the last few weeks. Furusawa goes without saying as most promising, other than that though our bigs are not as quality or plentiful as our guards interms of progress ( that I saw) etc. Still Kaneko etc. was getting big minutes in our wins last 2 seasons. There were 2 guys I added late though that if trained will look good soon... if they are being trained.

With the enthusiasm for our guards it makes you want to play them at SF but I haven't got good results. I think we need to put some emphasis on development of good bigs&SFs and let those players currently there battle for the 2 guards spots. That means some well developed/quality players will miss a spot on the NT whilst so-so players keep a spot just because of differences in position depth. thats life though.

You'll have to work the rest of the round, another loss to an inferior opponent and we could find ourself failing to qualify. Thailand is likely to be beat again, which could put us in a 3way tie for 3rd and 4th....an upset later in the round though and you could get as good as 2nd.

Anyway good luck and ganbare Nippon.
