Slovakia

In the end it was by the skin of their teeth, but Ireland has advanced into the knockout round of the Consolation Tournament following a close 98-90 win over Barbados. Robert Fallon was in fine form with 25 points and 19 rebounds, and Richard O'Malley was also impressive, grabbing 18 rebounds.

"Barbados gave us everything they had," said O'Malley. "We made some mistakes as well, but we've got plenty of lads who've been around a big game once or twice and they proved their class in the end."

Qualifying as the 32nd and final knockout side, Ireland will face top-ranked Slovakia, who were undefeated in their qualification campaign. A tough task, made only tougher by the news of an injury picked up by guard Chris Clarke midweek. It doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but Clarke is not expected to play any club games before the Slovakia tie and he will likely face a late fitness test.
