Growing pains: Kurizo Hoopers ekes win, defeats Cresta Verde Mountaineers 101-95

Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- It's one of those games that the Cresta Verde Mountaineers prepared, they're in for a fight, but just came short. This is part of their growing pains having a young core.

Their GM, Nicolo Maro, wasn't able to witness the first half but was clearly satisfied when he arrived to start the 4th. Kurizo Hoopers were leading 72-66 and they were within striking distance.

The arrival of their GM put a jolt on the team as they even lead several times in the crucial fourth but timely shots in the last two minutes of the game by Hoopers - as they missed - dealt them their fourth loss.

Renald Geonanga had a game-high 36 points with 17 rebounds but it wasn't enough to carry the Mountaineers. "No expectations, I signed up for this and will carry this team until we arrive" Renald said.

Fillmore Sabangan and Marion Pacete played the entire game notching 27 and 17 points respectively.

Goran Ilicic led the Hoopers with 24 points while Toufic Benhoussa scored 21. Two others scored in double-figures.

The Mountaineers outrebounded their opponent by nine and have more shots including three points made but they fell 95-101 against Kurizo Hoopers. They will now face division IV Vans Philippines in the National Tournament.

Player of the game: Goran Ilicic - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
X-factor: Frederick Rosales - 14 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals.
LVP: Claudio Regala - 7 points and 6 rebounds in 1-10 field goal.
