@WiMaOl:
Thank you for creating box score post, and with that the pre-season process is (practically) completely finished! Also thank you for taking time to organize matches, even though you were in a more difficult position than normally to do that.

@everyone:
Only sligtly more than an hour until Season 2 tip-off, and we're likely going to have some quite even (or if not, at least interesting) matches on Round 1!
Including WMO vs. HB, where 4th in HGL on Season 1 (WMO) defends his position/success against a strong newcomer HB (with $464K Season 1 Top 8-salaries). I´d also expect my Round 1 match against Chucarro's Club Trouville to be quite even... And we´re going to see a meeting with 2 new-to-HGL teams in EOS vs. VPO. While Top8-salaries, in which VPO is ahead, sometimes play a big role in determining winning probabilities, there's always certain kind of surprise element in the air especially when teams face for the first ever time.

We also have 5 totally new teams this season, so that should add another interesting element as these 5 have probably never played against HGL teams before. In addition, we're going to add another country with more than 1 participating team, in form of Italy, so more "local rivalries" are introduced to HGL too.
Speaking of which, in addition to Suuret Muinaiset - another Finnish team - I'm looking forward to the Nordic local rivalry due to new additions of Hårdboll (Sweden) and BC Eos (Estonia). (Latvian Lielupes Melnās Sirdis isn't too far away either, so theoretically he's also almost a local opponent for us).

As for winning your most important rivalries, a reminder to especially new managers: in HGL we don't rate teams based on scoring differential if you have the same amount of wins (than the team your team is being compared to), but the decisive factor is which team has won the Regular Season match between those teams. So take extra care to place your tactics and lineup for matches against your closest rivalries that are essential for your Regular Season success!

What kind of expectations/goals you all have for the whole season, or for Round 1 matches?

Please contact me by BBMail or send message here in Official Thread(s) if you end up having problems or questions. There are many helpful managers in our HGL community, so while I won't be online every day, you might get a quick answer to your question if you send it to this Official Thread.

Again, good luck for everyone for Season 2!

Well done, Wagner.

My expectations are pretty simple. Although I know I will lose every game again this season, I am hoping to lose by less against teams I have played before. These are my mini goals and realistic.

Looking forward to seeing if Hadar can go back-to-back, or if someone has the team to take him out this season.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks MrJ, and that shows a good example of right spirit and perseverance, which is definitely something that's needed with HG projects. Those goals are also interesting way to measure your development against certain other HGL team. For instance, my Round 1 match against TRO ended up on 13 point differential, when on Season 1 I won by 10, so not big difference there. However, teams are on different stages of development (either likely getting better or worse in coming seasons compared to current situation, which team age comparison post from Season 1 tries to predict) so I'm looking forward to see also some big differences on scores compared to Season 1 matches.

Speaking of mini goals, you made it to the Hadár's list of Best collective performance of the evening (here: (327517.35)), which was a great achievement in itself... 13 steals for your team. Maybe it was the first time on that list, I'm not sure about that though? That's better than any of other 15 teams were able to produce on Round 1, so all these small victories within your journey can make the long process feel worthwhile if you consider this kind of milestones important (as I for example do, as I love stats).

League table after Round 1 updated on traditional places (on both official threads), so it can be found for example from here: (327517.4).

Yeah, I think I was just thinking about steals, as we usually do well in that skill.

A closer look at all you have linked, Hadar, at it seems most of those are a result of my aging SG, K.Regis. That's cool.

Hopefully, a few more of my players will start featuring in the records as time moves forward...

My bad, even though I only meant "Best collective performance of the evening"-category.
If we compare salary development in percentages, you have by far the biggest jump from Season 1 to S2, and I´m looking forward for that to happen on S2->S3 as well.

How do I know this? LennuK. from BC Eos has now calculated Top 8 salaries for Season 2 for us, and also calculated salary development/changes in percentages. As a cherry on top of cake, we also have Top 8 players average ages for Season 2 as well (on Season 1 separate post was written about it), as he provided that information simultaneously.
So based on that information, I have updated "Total of 16 teams will take part to Season 2 of HGL"-posts on both official threads, and will release some salary comparison tables soon. Thank you LennuK. for your contribution, all these kind of things are appreciated a lot!

Also, @Hadár: It's great that you want to keep on releasing extra stats for every Round of Regular Season, that won't ever leave unnoticed by me even though I might not comment about it on every round, and such things make HGL even better/more interesting.

LennuK. from BC Eos provided us some freshly calculated Season 2 salaries and Top 8 players average ages-data, so based on that I created couple of HGL teams comparison tables.

First team abbreviations-listing, and below that actual comparison tables:

HGL teams abbreviations:

D = Madrid Chotis
ED = Elan Demars
EOS = BC Eos
FRE = Freccia Azzurra
HAD = Svätý Jur Snakers
HB = Hårdboll
KKS = KK Stihija
LGM = Les Gueux du Marais
LMS = Lielupes Melnas Sirdis
RAJ = Rajdersi

WAG = Wagner College
WMO = WiMaOlca

Top 8 players salaries::

Team Top 8 $K

HB 13*
VPO -1*
WMO -4
KKS -143*

*=Please note, team did not participate on HGL Season 1. However, salary information has been collected for these teams during Season 1, so therefore we are able include them in this comparison.

Top 8 players salary development from Season 1 to Season 2, in % (+/-):

Team $K change +/-%
SRS 45,5
EOS 31,1*
LMS 29,6
SUM 17,3
HAD 16,1
TRO 13,0
RAJ 12,1
D 11,8
FRE 11,3*
LGM 9,5
ED 9,3
WAG 5,2
HB 2,8*
VPO -0,2*
WMO -1,2
KKS -21,4*

*=Please note, team did not participate on HGL Season 1. However, salary information has been collected for these teams during Season 1, so therefore we are able include them in this comparison.

Age comparison tables:
(These tables utilize both earlier available Season 1 age data (my age comparison post on Season 1) and Season 2 Top8-earners average age data provided by LennuK.

Average age of Top8-salary players on Season 2 of HGL:

Team Aver.age(T8-S2)
LMS 22,6
EOS 23,3
FRE 25,1
SRS 25,4
KKS 25,5
RAJ 25,9
D 26,0
SUM 26,0
LGM 27,1
TRO 27,4
WMO 27,9
ED 28,1
WAG 29,4
HAD 30,0
VPO 31,5
HB 32,0

Season 1 to Season 2 change in average ages:

Team Age change S1>S2
WAG -1,1
ED -0,4
SUM -0,4
D -0,1
TRO 0,4
RAJ 0,9
SRS 0,9
HAD 1,0
LGM 1,0
LMS 1,0
WMO 1,0
EOS N/A
FRE N/A
HB N/A
KKS N/A
VPO N/A

N/A=age data from Season 1 not available; average age change wasn't calculated for Season 2.

Please note, that if you use this table to get an idea of possible/likely future development of team in terms of salary development, and compare this table together with S1>S2 salary development table, it is often times good combination if salary development for team has been very positive from last season while simultaneously average age of top8-players drops, as it suggests team is able to stay young or actually even get younger while simultaneously successfully training Top8 players.
I think for instance SUM and ED are a good example of teams with positive development (from Season 1 to Season 2-comparison). Of course it's not that simple as it doesn't take into account the whole picture, including player potentials, but that's still something to consider.

Round 2 matches just behind the corner; on Season 1 we had few very close ones on Round 2, and on Season 2 we're going to have exactly the same matchups (of course excluding the new-to-HGL teams).

SUM vs. ED was a very close one last season, ED winning by 2 points.
RAJ vs. WMO was another nail biter, as RAJ won by only 3.

As for new Round 2 matchups on Season 2, if we compare teams only by comparing salaries, LMS vs. EOS should be very close one as teams are extremely close to each other in Top8-salaries, $254K and $249K, respectively.

You wouldn't think teams could be closer to each other in salaries, but that myth is actually broken on another Round 2 matchup, FRE vs. D with Top8-salaries of $237K and $236K. This is, as far as I know, the most equal match ever played in HGL in terms of Top8 salaries, so we'll see, if the decision would even come by buzzerbeater in either of the two matches!
