It's since season 2 I keep asking this and today's match with Philippines reminded me why I so fucking hate this nonsense garbage time.
You play for medals. You play for difference points. Every point is important and then comes the garbage to let you waste your score.
It's pure nonsense to be forced to put a worse lineup on the court. If you play for a title or a 1st place in your group you will play your starters, not your bench.
I am not whining on today's match because other teams too had garbage but I consider it really an annoying and useless thing. The coach should be allowed to decide whether to have garbage or not.

I couldn't agree more.

Especially in NT/U21 point differential is a key aspect. If we take a look at the standings right now, either in the Asian Tournament or the European one, is clear how much impact could have garbage time. Everyone has to deal with that, but it's stupid have no way to avoid this problem.

I think every single team might lose some point differential because of that. But, especially for minor teams, where you may have a more consistent discrepancy between starters and bench players, is very tough to stay competitive during garbage. Avoiding that could help everyone, mostly little countries fighting to overcome the depth of major teams.

+1

Maybe another good solution would be to disable garbage time automatically, when CT is played? Far as I know, HT has a similar mechanic.

With your own club garbage can be a good thing during the season.
But I should have the chance to manage it. Using it when needed to manage better my minutes and unticking it while I need for difference points.
This is brainy. Not stupid like this current system.
Smaller countries have less players than big ones as flagged properly by samusaran. For us garbage can mean to lose important points and next week Australia Hong Kong and Philippines for example will battle for medals being in a 48 point window. 3 teams in 48 points. It is just an example, obviously but same goes for a playoff spot in your league or points to avoid relegation and whatever.
Especially in U21 and nt it's quite easy to see how many times (every season) standings are decided by dp. And if my fate relies in dp I want full rights to manage my roster to keep the maximum based on my choices.

In fact, you're right - the problem is, if instruction like "no junk time in NTs" could be coded by BBs.

Totally agree with no garbage time option, not only in NT, but everywhere. When all is decided by points difference as the first tie-breaket, I find this option very useful.
