Peeps deny Carindale report

The owner of the Surry Hills Peeps denied a report that the team is in talks to move to Carindale, QLD.

The Brisbane Times in Brisbane, QLD, cited unnamed sources as saying Peeps ownership and officials from Carindale Council and concert promoter Rock Star Promotions are supposed to descend on Carindale on Tuesday to discuss a new stadium and relocation of the BB franchise.

"We haven't talked to Carindale," Mr Lazy told NOVA 96.9 in Surry Hills.

Peeps owner Mr Lazy pulled out of a plan to help finance an Arena in Carindale earlier last season, saying it didn't make financial sense for the franchise.

The team has been tied to discussions in Canberra, ACT, as well as other cities.

"The Peeps have been approached by numerous cities interested (in) buying the team and relocating it," Peeps spokesman Pat Macrouch said to NOVA 96.9 in an email. "We are not going to discuss which cities have approached the team and are not going to comment on every rumor. I can tell you that the Peeps are 100 percent focused on putting a winning team on the court."

Brisbane City Mayor Graham Quirk would not comment on the Peeps but did say some meetings will take place.

"Rock Star Promotions, BuzzerBeater TV and Lazy Activities (a Rock Star Promotions-owned stadium operator) have come to the city," he told the Business Journal. "They would guarantee us a professional sports team (if a deal goes through)."

Comcast told NOVA 96.9 through spokesperson Pat Macrouch that it would not comment until after Tuesday's meetings.
