Round 14 of the TV game show (Match Prediction Contest) is in the books.
Winner: Slabs got off to an early lead, but after a dominate 2nd and 3rd quarter the Rockets were securely ahead winning it all by 28 points.

Summary: The game-day prep from the rockets was perfect. The tricky motion offense of the Slabs was locked down, going 36% from the field and just 25% from the behind the arc. Meanwhile the Rockets went 54% from the field and 61% from 3pt range.

Questions: We do have some questions though. The offense was sound, but ratings wise the rockets didn't put up big numbers. Will that make them vulnerable in the final stretch of the season. Now that the Slabs are a game and sizeable point differential away from 4th. How will they change their tactics going into the playoff or relegation series?

Final Score: Mighty Moose Rockets 117 @ Slabs 89

Saturday 5/4/2024 8:00:00 PM 2nd Place Drunken Sconnies @ 1st Place Rashmonsters

Summary: Rashmonster has the best defense in the Great 8 holding all teams to 86 points a game on average. Whereas the Sconnies have the joint highest FG% in the entire league, 47.2%. We know that Rashmonsters have inside talent but the rebounds give them second chances. They average 60 rebounds a game, nearly 16 boards more than the Sconnies. The Sconnies are no slouch though with a league leading 8.2 blocks a game. Who will win the battle inside this matchup? What will it mean for the playoffs. Will these teams need deadlines acquisitions?

Injury/Transfers: No injuries, No new transfers. Maybe Drunken has the slight edge in the game shape department.

Last Matchup: The wins stand at Sconnies 4, Rashmosters 2, all-time. Most recent was a thrilling early season TV matchup at the Old Milwaukee Arena (Sconnies) with Rashmonsters winning away in OT, 118-114. The inside attack of the Rashmonsters was a big impact in that game. Can the Sconnies best them here?

Ramifications: Not a lot to play for as these two are running away for the pack in the conference. Tough to say who has the easier first round matchup in River Monsters or Evergreen Xenos in the Great 8.

Round 15 of the TV game show (Match Prediction Contest) is in the books.

Winner: Rashmonsters were taking no chances which saw them going into the 4th up by 25. They finished a defensive masterclass with a win 85 - 66.

Summary: To be honest both teams put up great numbers defensively. However, the Sconnies just could not get anything to fall from 3pt range (16%) to get back into this game. Plus, every miss was as good as a turnover with the Rashmonsters outrebounding the Sconnies by 28 boards. Plus, with the Monsters shooting (92%) from free throw, they were just not allowing Drunken to stubble back into this game.

Questions: This all but secures Rashmonsters lead on the conference. Therefore they will most likely walk into the playoffs as the first seed in the Great 8. Drunken meanwhile haven't fallen back much, but their point differential could be a factor if 3rd or 4th make a run. Rash play away at Bananahorns next time, and the Sconnies face the team right behind them in Evergreen Xenos. Can they both maintain good game shape and enthusiasm heading into the playoffs?

Final Score: Drunken Sconnies 66 @ Rashmonsters 85

Saturday 5/4/2024 8:00:00 PM 2nd Place Slashing Dragons @ 7th Place New York Newts

Summary: The Newts are trying to improve their record winning 2 of their last 3 games, but that may end as the teams above them in the Big 8 were shown to be true contenders against the best the Great 8 had to offer. Meanwhile the Dragons have been nearly flawless winning 7 of their last 8. The Dragons are great on defense holding their opponents to just 35% from the field. Whereas the Newts are the leakiest defensive with the highest turnover rate in the league.

Injury/Transfers: One departure for the Dragons with young PG Molano leaving for Venezuelan side Guerreros de Santa Rita for some pocket money. No injuries for either team though will make this a full strength matchup.

Last Matchup: This has been home court matchup. With the home team always winning. The rivalry currently stands at 2-1 in favor of the Slashing Dragons. Although the one win by the Newts was by 91 points. The last game was a 109 - 96 win by the Dragons at home earlier this season. The Newts had to play CT vs. TIE and double guess right in GDP just to get that close result.

Ramifications: The Newts are mostly safe. Only needing to secure 1 maybe 2 wins to retain their hold on 7th place. Also the relegation matchups are not set in stone, if the Newts were to make a big push for 6th. Truthfully the Great 8 table is kind of a mess and anyone could still end up anywhere. Meanwhile the Dragons want to secure probably 5 wins in these last 6 games to secure home court in the playoffs.

Round 17 of the TV game show (Match Prediction Contest) is in the books. I missed another double game day. Nonetheless our one matchup was a good one.

Winner: Slashing Dragons pushed the pace this game out scoring their opponents and winning 138 - 116. Claiming the series and overcoming the home court advantage hurdle like it was nothing.

Summary: The damage was done in the first half with the Dragons ahead by 21 at the midway point. They didn't have as shutdown a defensive performance as you would expect, but they scored absolutely everything. 54% from the field, 60% from 3pt range, and 83% from FT. The big three of the Newts (Villamater, Seidinger, and Anastasio) were incredible in their own right scoring 82 of the team's 116 points by themselves. Nonetheless, getting 15 less shot attempts than your opponent is a really hard tide to swim against. Especially when your opponent can't miss.

Questions: Where does this leave our heroes? The Newts are still safely in 7th, 2 games ahead of 8th. As long as they don't burn all their enthusiasm they will be a handful for the 5th place finisher in the Great 8. Meanwhile the Dragons continue to hold on to their claim to first round home court over the Dark Matter or Archers vying for 3rd. We are in the home stretch now with 5 games to go. Do teams have enough in the tank or are they saving their reserves for the playoffs?

Final Score: Slashing Dragons 138 @ New York Newts 116

Saturday 5/11/2024 8:00:00 PM 1st Place Mighty Moose Rockets @ 3rd Place Dark Matter

Summary: The Dark Matter have made it to the 3rd spot and away from the tough first round matchup, but everyone has to face the Rockets eventually. Can they hold off the Rockets enough at home to save their league position, or will the Rockets start taking their foot off the gas because they are within walking distance of the finish line? However, that coveted automatic promotion chance is always a good reason to stay focus in this last leg of the season. Some highlights are that the rocket have incredible on-ball pressure with the highest turnovers created and steals in the league. Meanwhile the Dark Matter are now the highest scoring team in the league averaging 112.5 points a game on 44% 3pt shooting.

Injury/Transfers: No injuries or recent transfers. However the $115,000 dollar difference in starting five salary gives this the feel, of a David and Goliath battle.

Last Matchup: This is a storied rivalry with this being a big matchup for the Rocket fan survey. The all-time record standings sit at Rockets (4 wins) and Dark Matter (3 wins). The most recent matchup was a 69 - 97 victory for the Rockets at home in the early part of the season. An interesting item of note is last season's regular season contests between these two sides averaged a margin of victory of 2.5 points. Was last time the new normal or will the hard-fought battles resume this week?

Ramifications: Everyone is in the playoffs pretty much, but now the seeding for who has to get stomped at the Rockets' dreaded Mighty Moose Arena is being fought over. Furthermore if the Rockets win presumably the Dragons will have some breathing room between themselves and 3rd.
