Biggest Snubs!
Obviously Ashkickers probably feel the most slighted, but overall, I think it shows the general dominance of the Big 8 this season. Other than that, David Charles (Mighty Moose) and Allen Parrish (San Dominica) both make a decent case at C for the Big 8, but there are three better centers than them. Power Forward was another heavily dominated group based on Average Efficiency, with Phillip Huddleston (Philly Dribble), Ryan Singh (Lion Rebels) being left out on the outside looking in. The War Birds also have two top 10 scoring leaders left out, Gianlulca Vagnozzi (21.9 PPG) and Collin McMahon (21.1 PPG).

For reference, I pulled these based on Average Efficiency, followed by Efficiency per 48 Minutes...any position not filled by those was then filled based on Average Rating.

Let me know if you think any differently!

I was hoping for Parrish to get an All-Star based on what he gives to our team but the C spot is pretty crowded with deserving talent. He'd be in if I had played him more at 4 but then its very likely us and the Moose have flipped records if I did.

Valladares should get a bench spot. Just still annoyed Begin hasn't made the jump I thought he would make this season. The rest of the list is pretty spot on I think though there will be one surprise when the final list comes out usually one

Overall, I guessed 13 of the 20 all stars, with two guys flipped and two others misplaced (or just missed). I wasn't convinved it was based on Average Efficiency, but looks like it's not far off from that assumption.

Biggest surprise for me was Arthuer Newman (12 AR, 12.0 PPG, 5.6 APG) but playing for one of the top 4 teams in the league while leading the league in assists makes sense (snubbed here was Damon Santana, who is more of a scoring PG (15 PPG) but not much of a shot distributor at all (around 2.5 APG). My only argument against Newman is his lack of ranking in the top 20 in Average Rater or Efficiency. The other, not as much of a surprise, was Oscar Reine at bench for Center - overall he's ranked 6th in Centers in Average Rating - coupled with his involvment again with a top 4 team, not a huge surprise. Poor Dallas Bomskwad ended up snubbed with Calderon missing the boat, but I'm sure Ashkickers is thankful for the additions.

3 Point Competition vs. League Leaders
Here are the 3 point competitors:
Paride Fassilli (Philly Dribble)
Damien Muncy (Seattle SuperSonicz)
Poobalan Motsoaledi (Ashkickers)
Antonio Gobber (SuperSonicz)
Collin McMahon (War Birds)
Roc Pedrosa (Gremlins - only All Star to compete)

Top 6 3 Point League Leaders (min 12 games)
1. Sebastien Rigaux (Philly) 56.8% on 37 3PA
2. Collin McMahon (War Birds) 51.3% on 76 3PA
3. Paride Fassilli (Philly) 49.2% on 63 3PA
4. Max-Phillip Woesler (Philly) 48.9% on 45 3PA
5. Roc Pedrosa (Gremlins) 48.4% on 62 3PA
6. Damien Muncy (SuperSonicz) 47.5% on 59 3PA

Antonio Gobber is shooting 43.2% on 74 3PA (ranked 9th)
Poobalan is shooting 42.7% on 82 3PA (ranked 11th)

I can see why Sebastian is left out, based on his lack of attempts. Max-Phillip as well - guessing that this is based on at least 50 attempts. As such, Collin McMahon is the favorite to win the competition.

Like I said there's always one or two surprises with All-Star selection. Toni Colomina was the reason I had said it. He's pretty much doing what he did last season when he made an All-Star reserve. But still you got most of them. Good job

The Toni vs. Umberto comparison is (was!) interesting:
Umberto 31.1 MPG 51.6 FG% 41 3P% 10.7 RPG 18.9 PPG 12.5 AR
Toni 37.6 MPG 36 FG% 12 3P% 15.5 RPG 10.8 PPG 12.0 AR

While they both play PF, Tropicana's outside scoring tendency was showcased by Umberto's 3 point percentage (admittedly, he'd only taken 32 3's), but comparatively, Ashkickers inside focus is evident in Toni's stats. As a "pure" PF in the game (maybe not in today's NBA), Toni is obviously the better PF...but Umberto's overall better efficiency and scoring abilities seem to point to a more deserving honor...but also, if I was Ashkicker's coach, I'd be pissed if a (now defunct) 6-7 team's PF beat out my traditional PF on my 10-3 team!

It is unfortunate that Umberto, who did qualify for 8th in the MVP race last season in this division, will no longer be showcased, even if Tropicana was a middling team. But I will say that a 25 year old $53k salary player is a LOT more exciting than a $26k 31 year old Spanish journeyman who probably wouldn't be nominated for MVP in DIV IV. ;)

Also, Dominate, I can see why you're tanking, after shedding your late 30s (and one 40!) year olds. Good luck to you!

Well, the All Star game was closer than I thought it would be - based on overall schedules and what seemed to be the Big 8's perceived dominance over the Great 8 in regular season matches (though, reflecting on this, I think that might be a bit misconstrued with (now) two bot teams and Dominate openly tanking ;) ). At any rate, the Great 8 turned in a great performance and led the way most of the game (by quarters' ends anyway).
End of 1st Score: 40-42
End of 2nd Score: 80-85
End of 3rd Score: 114-116

Score at the final minute (with reserves playing): 142-140 - here's how it played out:
- Vicente scores to make it 144-140 (Big 8)
- Much Maligned (by me) Arthur Newman scores with 41 seconds left: 144-142
- Vicente scores again, with 21 seconds left, to make it 146-142 and Great 8 calls a time out;
They come back from the break, and all the starters check back in:
- Penalver hits a three from the wing with 14 seconds left to make it what would be the final score and three fouls later by the Great 8 seals the victory for the Big 8.

Coincidentally, those were the first three fouls of the game against the Great 8 squad - no real chance to get the ball back because neither team was in bonus.

All Star Game MVPs:
Great 8: PF R. Penalver - 36 PTS, 7 REBs, and 2 BLKS on 16-24 shooting (including 4-4 from 3) in 26 minutes.
Big 8: PF D. Charykov - 33 PTS, 7 REBS, 2 BLKS, and 1 AST on 15-19 shooting (including 3-4 from 3) in 26 minutes.

As a personal aside, it's always disappointing when your guy (who also happened to receive the most votes) has a poor showing in the all star game - T. Armstead with a pitiful 6 PTS, 7 REBS, (but) 6 AST on 3-8 shooting. I blame the coach!

I know that's something that's always nagged me about the All-Star game is how to they play? Granted I get both teams are supposed to on paper be even but realistic both teams have certain strengths and weaknesses that would make base offense a worse than others strategy. Kinda wish the two coaches on top the standings could pick the strategy for the All-Star teams.

That said I was happy my guy came through when it mattered most. And I loved the "Much Maligned (by me) Arthur Newman" comment
