Pre-Season Release

The Australian community's most famous and (infamous) Private League - the Fishbowl - is once again gearing up for another season, it's 11th.

The Fishbowl once represented the most intense rivalry between two of the greatest federations in the BB world - the Sharks (formerly known as XBB) and the Calamari. This rivalry dates back to Season 12, when core members of each federation resided in various leagues of division 3 basketball. Since then, teams have come and go, even federations have come and go, the Fishbowl itself has expanded and contracted, core members have risen to division 2 and even ABBL, but after 10 seasons, one thing remains constant - Sharks, Calamari, and the epic struggle between the two to dominate.

Season 11 marks a reboot to the tournament, with the competition going back to it's original roots. The number of conferences have been scaled back to two - the Western Conference a la the Premier League, and the Eastern Conference, or in essence, the D-League, and the number of Federations scaled back to the original two. Although relations between the Sharks and Calamari have somewhat improved in the last few seasons, to a point where it is just about civil, the reboot of the competition and the renewed emphasis placed on the Sharks and Calamari have awakened old hatreds, with fighting words already being exchanged in some team press conferences.

"LOL... Calamari. I hope they come battered." GM of Awesome, Mr Sundae himself was heard to snicker to his cohorts during the team's season opening press conference.

"I can't wait to crush them under my bootheel." Urmum of Urmumma snapped during a pre-game interview. "It's time to put the damned Calamari in their place once and for all. To think, they have the gall to keep challenging us. How dare they. Do they not know they are playing against the greatest team in Australia? We won the fcuking cup b1tches!"

"Ahhh Fish tears, they are delicious," Akuma of TeamAkuma laughed. "I still remember fondly the tears that flowed from Fishy when DFBS and SmeltzTroopers tried to game the season standings way back in Season 2 or whatever it was."

"We're looking forward to a spectacular season, and would like to wish our Shark competitors luck.." Yoda from Chelsea Seagulls began at the Calamari press conference on Monday morning before the Bogans snatched the microphone away from him.

"They'll need all the luck they can get," GM Trikster of the Bogans drawled while holding his beer can in one hand, and microphone in the other. "Tell you what Sharks. We'll play drunk in the season opener, just to make things fair for you. How does that sound?"

"Bloop!" Fishy exclaimed excitedly when asked for his comments.

20 teams. 12 weeks. Two Federations. One Champion.

The Season kicks off on Friday 15th March @ 6pm. Only one Federation will be left standing. Be there, and witness the story unfold!

Is that true? That really wasn't my aim at all, I am just trying to make some major changes to the team but one step at a time. I assumed it was abigfishy, Whitebeard, you and then clear skies. Our conference sucks, that means we probably have the four highest salaries in Australia all in the same conference right now.

PS: I just checked and your maths is hopeless I am way behind you three.

PPS: Fantastic press release Akuma and you certainly got the quotes in character as well.

Round 1: Sharks inch ahead 78-77

The season opener is behind us, and after the first round of games, the Sharks have taken a miniscule one point lead in the ladder, 78-77. Koopasaurus dominated Chumunga 90-48, giving him the number one spot. The rest of the sharks did not fare as well, with the Calamari's Winnerz, Goldfish and Seagulls holding the rest of the top 4 positions.

The inter-federation battle of the week was between Division 2's TeamAkuma and the ABBL Seagulls. The game was a close one in the first half, with the Seagulls heading back to the locker room at half time holding a shaky 6 point lead. However, a dominating Seagull performance in the fourth quarter, and Smeltz fouling out ultimately lead to a blowout win for the Seagulls. Smeltz was seen running suicides after the game as pennance for his atrocious defense.

Over on the East side, the competition failed to start. Rumours indicate a pre-season celebration was held on the eve of the season opener. As a result, Shepperton shooter's Ezyfrag was found in a gutter in King's Cross early on friday morning, too drunk to sign the private league charter to start the season. The Eastern Conference has been delayed by one week, and will start on Friday the 22nd March.

Looking ahead, a sizzling series of inter-federation matches are lined up, with the Goldfish looking to gulp down TeamAkuma, Awesome looking to awe the seagulls, and The Winnerz looking to er...win against the Coin Collectors.

Friday, 6pm. Be there!

Edit: Newsflash - the Reporter had a brainfart and totalled up the numbers incorrectly. The Sharks actually lead the Calamari 78-77 thanks to the prowess of Koopasaurus!

Urmummas needs to pull his socks up and get in the top 4 or else us Sharks will be run over by the end of the season.

Great read nonetheless.
