77 games would be an alright outcome in the 32 team scenario. Play 15x3 games in each teams own conference, and 16x2 games against the other conference.
That's a total of 1,232 season games, almost identical to the current 1,230 played by 30 teams right now. And you're only taking away 3 home games from each team (and adding a neutral venue game where the gate revenue can be split).
May still be difficult to get the owners to play ball, but it's the most realistic scenario available to remove the dreaded back-to-backs, and other issues that NBA's ancestors created back in the days when they needed to play until they dropped for a living.
