Hello all,

Minor suggestion: could you please add more information about the candidates in the National Teams Election pages? Currently, the only information passed through to the voters is the world ranking of the candidate. I was thinking about adding team achievements, but one could also add experience and other information you find relevant.

Although this is a minor issue, it can have major implications, just as it happened this season in Portugal's U21 election. I was clearly the best candidate but, since I am in rebuild mode, there were candidates above me in the rankings. The uninformed voters outnumbered the ones that really care about the national team and the inferior candidate was elected, to the surprise of the community. This is particularly frustrating when we have the best U21 generation ever in the country and the new NT coach has 3 19-year olds of his team on the U21 squad at a time where you cannot dismiss players without harming enthusiasm. To make matters worse, since we are a small but not that small of a community, we cannot make the coach step down through approval rates, because we cannot get to 25 votes. Everyone in the community is pissed about this, as you can see by the topics created in the Portuguese forums (https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...).

I understand this is a democracy but there has to be a way of uninformed and uninterested voters to not screw up a full year of investment of experienced managers in prospects. I feel like at least providing more information in the Election page is the way to go, but one could also think about forcing players to check the Speeches page before being able to vote, for example. I am open to suggestions and would like to hear your thoughts.

Regards,

Just remove that red exclamation mark from elections page and all randoms that do not pay any interest in national team will not vote. Our u21 also suffered this time because of it. Lost 3 full seasons of training and that sux. Completely lost interest in u21 team because of this.

Yes, I agree this is an even easier way to go. We saw a jump in participation from 10 votes to almost 100 in 2 seasons because of the exclamation mark.

You're against more people voting? That seems... odd.

Sounds funny until you and your community invest in a generation to try and achieve something and all goes to waste because a troll gets elected due to his global ranking. Why would you want 80% of the voters to not give af about the NT? My suggestion was to try and force those voters to be educated on their decision, which necessarily means providing more info and making them read it. But it’s a fair point to just remove the damn exclamation point

In this situation I am against, yes. Just imagine, before this exclamation feature we had about 40 - 50 votes each time, and when it was introduced this number jumped 200+ instantly. And we already have plenty of examples when elections are won by some trolls only because they have higher rank. This time in LTU U21 won a candidate that is banned on forums and didn't even wrote a single word during elections. So looks like those random voters does not even care about speeches and etc.

It's actually not that odd once you look at unintended consequences. In other words, I don't think the issue is having more or less people vote, it's having more INFORMED people vote.

I don't think it's uncommon to have candidates who show absolutely no involvement in the election process receive bunch of votes (last U21 election in Italy, almost 100 votes for a candidate with no election speech, non participation in the debate, etc.). It probably happened before the red exclamation mark, but I would imagine that it happens even more now.

This isn't to say that the solution is to have less votes, or "hide" the election button. I don't actually have a solution, or even a proposal for a solution, just that there are indeed unwanted consequences to highlighting the election link.

The problem with this is that there is no way of ensuring that the candidate puts in a serious speech. A simple "vote for me" would even make it. Or even "asdf".

If anybody will ask me I would prefer the need for a speech to be counted as a candidate. No speech, no candidature. An NT coach must be able to speak with users, so a speech is a way to show that he is able. Besides this, he put information about him too.

Perhaps an approach would be to have the candidate put in his speech when he candidates himself?
And lock that information once the election starts?

That way, along with all the information you were referring to, the voter would also see the election speech. Obviously, if the speech is "vote for me" or "sdfgdfgw", it won't look great for his candidacy.

I don't think anyone would bother reading and judging. I mean, they don't bother to find out more about the candidates now, pretty sure they would still vote for the highest WR player even if that guy said "sdfgdfgw" while other participants write essays.

Honestly I think the best way is to remove the WR, just show the name and flag. Don't know if it's possible but it's even better if the position of candidates are randomized (so as to negate the chances of people just voting the top guy on the list.
