As many of you know, training was rerun around midday on Friday because last Saturday's minutes were not included correctly in the training update. This was due to a bug which related to a specific error in country creation and will never repeat itself.
However, in rerunning training we used the training setting that was in the database at that moment. This meant that users who logged on after the original training update and changed their training option before the rerun received training for last week which was incorrect. We did not fully anticipate how many users this actually represented, and although we cannot be sure of the exact number it appears to be many more than the handful of teams we had hoped. Even worse, because training might have changed several times, we don't know which teams were actually affected.
Due to the large number of teams that appear to have been affected, the Buzzerbeater team has been working hard on trying to find the most equitable solution possible to resolve this unfortunate circumstance.
First, we fully recognize that no solution is perfect, and we urge all those unsatisfied to consider what alternatives were available and how such alternatives might adversely affect other users, even if they would not affect you.
That being said, we think we have come up with a better solution to this bug. We have a backup containing training settings as of Friday ~3am EST. However, given that some time has passed and teams have made strategic decisions based upon the training that has already run we didn't want to impose rerunning training with these settings unilaterally.
So we have setup an option which effectively allows you to rerun training with the Friday 3am training settings instantaneously for your team. There is now an option on the front page to allow each team to make this choice once. No, you don't get to peek at what training would look like both ways before deciding.
Please note:
- Training will be changed for all players that were on your team as of Friday at 3am.
- Only player skills will be updated by training; game shape updates were correctly run the second time (and have a random factor) and will not be changed. If you meant to train form last week, then it will of course be recalculated.
- MOST teams were not affected by this bug, and so clicking the "switch my training" button won't change anything for most teams.
This is not a perfect solution, although it's really the best we've come up with after calling in the entire team from their Thanksgiving holidays.
Some unfortunate consequences that we have thought of but cannot foresee a solution to, or else are considered the lesser of two evils:
- National Teams...coaches dont have control/knowledge over who has/will reset their training.
- Transfers...There will be some minor inequities/surprises surrounding players who were transfered on various times Friday.
- Sporadic Users...Some people might only sign in once a week and so might miss the opportunity to have their training reset.
- Language Barrier...We cannot get our post translated into every language instantaneously, so some language speakers might be able to get their training reset before others.
- 3am is not when the training update happened. There is still a small window of time in which someone might have set training to something different than the 3am setting, if that person then also logged in and changed training again before the rerun, we cannot get their training correct. We hope this will not be a problem, but in the interest of fairness we cannot run a training regimen that is not in the database.
