It's early season I know but the so called favourites for the Finals aren't playing that well.

Spurs lost a couple.
Cavs on a losing streak.
GS not winning well.

On the other hand

Magic
Grizz
Nets

All playing well

This bizarro world is one where the top 6-8 teams know that they can coast into the play-offs, so they treat the regular season as the preseason. This problem has been simmering for a while but has hit boiling point now.

I insist that 82 games was a mistake. If there's any way for the NBA to shorten it they must for the greater good.

So expand to 32 teams - play each team twice = 62 games.

Would allow them to seed playoffs based on record rather than conference.

Fat chance getting owners to agree to losing the revenue from those 10 home games though...Maybe somehow expand the playoffs and somehow have the crappy teams in some sort of playoff system as well to get some extra games.

77 games would be an alright outcome in the 32 team scenario. Play 15x3 games in each teams own conference, and 16x2 games against the other conference.

That's a total of 1,232 season games, almost identical to the current 1,230 played by 30 teams right now. And you're only taking away 3 home games from each team (and adding a neutral venue game where the gate revenue can be split).

May still be difficult to get the owners to play ball, but it's the most realistic scenario available to remove the dreaded back-to-backs, and other issues that NBA's ancestors created back in the days when they needed to play until they dropped for a living.

Doesn't the NBA have a contract with the cable companies that they just signed? They are obligated to play those 82 games. More games means more money for the cable companies and online betting agencies.

Any changes would need to be renegotiated in the next deal.

Last season taught me not to read too much into regular season games but even so, Boston might have a shot of winning the Eastern Conference even without Hayward the way they're playing. Of course those chances would rise dramatically if Hayward can recover fast and make it back for the play-offs, but it seems that the young core the Celtics have is emerging, and the basketball equivalent of the Herschel Walker trade is bearing fruit.

Pistons quietly looking strong too, though be aware that last season, Atlanta started 9-2, then had a slump and ended up 43-39. Of course the early season matters, but there's more than enough games left that the likes of OKC and Cleveland are far removed from panic stations yet.

The Celtics beating the Warriors gave me deja vu of a moment in the 2012 NBA finals when Durant, with his team down 2, decided to go up for an immediate contested 2 rather than wait for something that gives his team a better chance of forcing OT as a whole. I criticised the decision then and I'll criticise it now.

Even if he makes that shot, which he didn't on either attempt, he's only tying the game and giving the other team ample time to make their own basket and reclaim the victory. Why not try to take some time off the clock and at the very least force the opposition to rush on offence if you make the tying basket? Especially since the shot Durant did take on both occasions was with a defender on or near him?

In other news... BULLS WIN!!

And still well clear at the bottom of the East :S

But your teams tanking, wins are losses and losses are wins. You don't want to lose that 1st overall pick to Dallas or Atlanta after completely nuking the roster from orbit, right?
