INTRO: I have played this game off and on for years, and some notions remain the same over time. Here are some quick thoughts I wish someone would have told me right when I signed up.

1. Patience. You cannot pay gems to sim stuff. You won't see results in a week. You need a plan.

2. Your plan must involve increasing revenue. You manage the entire program, and there are only four revenue sources.

ATTENDANCE

MERCHANDISE

TV CONTRACT

PLAYER TRANSFERS

Merch and TV Money do not fluctuate all that much. There is really no way to make vast strategic gains over other owners when it comes to these two. Just know they are there and what you see is what you get.

The other two, ATTENDANCE and TRANSFERS are how you are going to make any money. You need cash to buy better players, hire better trainers, or expand your arena. Those are your three organizational pillars. You want to do these three things ASAP. All require money.

TRANSFERS involve buying player A for X dollars and selling him for profit. This involves an understanding of the market for players. You do not have this skill. It is earned over time. I will give you the key after this next bit.

ATTENDANCE is where you make consistent money. The bigger your arena, the more your make. This is the first part of your plan.

1/5/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 117 000
1/21/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 45 900
2/20/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 190 000
3/15/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 186 500
4/4/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 178 000
4/22/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 106 000
5/27/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 46 000
6/6/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 141 000
6/30/2017 Expansion of Nite Nite Arena $ 189 000

This is 6 months from the initial team creation. That's 9 expansions and in hindsight, that second small expansion should have just been a big one. I would be in even better shape.

You want to expand your arena without screwing yourself financially. About every three weeks or so. At least for the first few months. You need money! And the sooner you have more seats, the sooner you have more income.

TRAINING

Look at your roster. Do you have any 18 or 19 year olds? I hope so. Either way you want about 5 trainees (18-23 year olds) Younger trains faster than older.

If you already have 18 and 19 year olds that play PF or C then you are training front court players. If you have 18/19 y.o. guards, then you are training back court players. The basketball gods have decided your fate.

Find some cheap trainees on the Transfer List for under 20k. Set the search parameters for-> under 23, potential 'Starter'.

If you are training Guards, look for at least some guard skills in this rating pocket (same goes for C/PF with C/PF skills)..

mediocre
average
respectable
strong

You want 4-6 trainees on your roster either way. Go to Staff in the menu and hire an advanced or competent trainer. You bid on them like ebay. Careful with their weekly salary. When you first start out try to keep it under 17k.

Now you have expanded the arena, got some trainees and a trainer. Now fill out your roster will solid vets and try to compete for a playoff spot.

So if you are training PG/SG, then buy players between the age of 23-37 for your other starting lineup spots.

Veterans are always going to be cheaper than players in their prime. Since this is an open market, things fluctuate. Right now, players prices are high. It sucks. But we deal with it buy either selling or searching the market using specific parameters.

Here is one I use often when searching...

Age 23-37
Salary 8k-40k
Price: Under 100k

This allows you to see a lot of players and you will quickly learn how to spot deals, or fair prices. By persuing this list, you will find similarly skilled players priced extremely different from one another. Age plays a big factor. Older players skills dete

deteriorate over time. Still, for two seasons they work just fine.

You can set more narrow searches as well.
A great C search would be
28-31 y.o.
salary 7k-17k
for under 35k.

If you only get a few bites, then widen the pricing. It's a great way to chunk information. Remember. Patience.

Keep weekly minutes between 48-80. How you set your lineup will determine minutes. You play 3 games per week. So do not start a player all three games. Their game shape will suffer and they will play like butt.

Follow these three pillars, and you can dig in to the rest on your own time. Read the manual. and search the forums for more. Again, this was just a quick and dirty guide.

What does expanding arena in big chunks do vs several smaller chunks?

It simply gets you a larger arena more quickly, and allows you to make attendance revenue more quickly and not have to worry about it down the line. You're going to have to expand your arena to roughly 20k eventually, so expanding early is always nice if you have the funds.

Why so many trainees? I'd say it should be like this:
1: get 3 18-19 year old trainees with star or allstar potential
2: get a competent or advanced trainer
3: expand your arena while training your youngsters
