League tables now updated after Round 10 of play.
We have a 4-way tie, 4 teams at 5W-5L and currently also 3 teams at 3W-7L.
Which reminds me of Paul George's comment on Season 2 thread, here:
(327516.183).
My response was this (here:
(327516.185)) however, the matter still remains undecided.
I wasn't totally sure what Paul George meant with "virtual table" in his message, so I made an assumption in my reply (and still am not sure if that assumption was correct?).
Anyway, Season 3 Playoffs are approaching and they're approaching fast, so to avoid a quick Commissioners' decision "on the fly" in this undecided possibly problematic situation, I think it'd be better to decide an order in which teams are ranked in a 3 way tie (or 4 or 5-way tie..), if for example following situation exists (here's quote from my above mentioned post):So situation that you mentioned about could indeed become a challenge, if for example team
A wins B
B wins C, and
C wins A.
Then we would face situation where one should be above another, except that third team "messes up" that easy solution if one of the tied teams doesn't lose to both other tied teams... If I have made a mistake in my thinking (in an above example, that it would make it impossible to solve situation without adding another layer/method of comparison), anybody please let me know.
While it's possibly not my first choice (as I'd personally prefer to give most credit to great defense instead of great offense), I'd be ready to accept +/- point differential to be used as a next classification criteria for teams tied in wins and whose Regular Season match results against each other don't make it possible to rank teams based on winning the other team during Regular Season (like in above example of mine).
@all HGL managers: What do you guys think, should we use point differential on Season 3 Playoffs (ORSR-rankings) on these situations in where it's not possible to rank teams in typical way (winner of Regular Season meeting is always higher on league table)?I still think that in the case of 4 way tie for instance, if one of the teams can be dropped out of the comparison based on losing to all other teams with same record, only 3-way tie situation would occur(/it would be handled as a 3-way tie and 4th team would be automatically ranked lowest of those).
On the other hand, at least when I first think of it and if there's no mistake in my thinking, one of 4 teams would only drop out of such 4-way tie comparison to losing all other 3 teams, right?
When we start to introduce 4 or more teams, this gets more and more complicated, and as I've never dealt with such situations before, please correct me at any point if you notice any problems in my thinking/logic, and we'll try to figure this out (set clear rules for it) before this might actually happen.
