Why do you have this so hard for me, I'm hoping you can tie this back to U21 somehow.

I would marry Bruce Willis, and get some good ol’ rock loving, but I agree Vin Diesel has gotta go. Good answers!

For all candidates: how do you determine which players will be U21 track, NT track, or a combination where possible?

I once had a team with 1757 players and was $25,835,360 in debt. This is not that team. Join the Discord group open to anyone, but especially for USA managers to improve your club or get involved with the U21 and NT programs (https://discord.gg/cKpNkt2).

Start with potential and then go from there.
HOF is kind of needed for NT for every build other than certain SF builds. We’re seeing u21 players with more TSP than ever before with the youth trainers, elastics, and gyms.

So those HoF potential players, and seldom MVP prospects with be given a training plan with the u21 and NT coach’s input on where they see a need in the NT, and the build they would like. Even if it means these prospects skipping the u21, given the managers, and only their willingness. I know guards with well-rounded secondaries in particular miss the mark for u21 for NT purposes, but there can be overlap, depending on the specific prospect. Give me some builds and potential and I can tell you my plans.

As for u21? If the players communicate with scouts then we will give them a build. I love passing 1-5, as well as driving, because I believe those two skills give many options when it comes to building a team and offense. I also love Princeton so very much. If they don’t communicate with scouts, and do things on their own then I’ll never abash a manager, or hold it against his prospect when it comes time for team selection; a player that can play, can play no matter how they were trained, or who their manager is. Unless they are completely ignorant with game shape, but that, like everything in this game, can be taught.

I want to add on a point I’ve always felt strongly on. Many seasons ago scouting developed into a “your prospect is way too talented for you to train” to new managers, all in an effort to convince this manager to sell (granted, for a lot of money). And more than one new manager has been convinced to sell their Uber prospect for the offsite, and discord’s purposes. I hate, hate, hate that.
I will never ever tell a manager to sell his prospect, even if he’s been playing 3 weeks. I’ll give an honest opinion if he asks how much he could sell for, but I’ll never shove him in one direction or another. That’s the magic of this game, training an awesome player. We all remember our first big prospect (Dan Gardner!) That’s the point of the NT is to train and teach managers so they become tools to one day contribute often to the u21 and NT causes. A little work in the beginning may yield a future NT coach. I don’t think it’s been going on recently, at least not in the public channels, but I will never ask that, or tell my scouts to go hunting.

Our first legit question!

Here we go, I think the other candidate oriolekid answered this very well so I will add a little bit on my end.

I agree that we should always start with potential and personally, I will always put the best prospects (10 pot with good starting TSP) on NT route since BuzzerBeater is a game of marathon, not a sprint. Especially with youth trainers nowadays, players can easily reach U21 level even if they are training for NT.

I think teaching new owners how to train is crucial as oriolekid stated, however, with the new infrastructure (gym/training court) as well as the introduction of youth trainers, I think training for U21/NT has became a premium, new owners may not be as well equipped to train financially because purchasing and maintaining the gym and/or a training court, may not be something they can afford at the very beginning.

Which in my opinion, is essential nowadays. For example, my most recent U21 player, Fred Eckert had 12FT to start with at the beginning of his U21 season (I can't check the box scores now but I think he barely miss a FT), I think that's one of the most crucial skills to have especially at the national landscape because of how competitive games can be, we have seen way too many games that we could potentially won because of FTs.

With that being said, I think it will be beneficial to bring as many of these new owners to our Discord channel, and assist them in learning about this game, and figure out the best route for their trainee moving forward. At the end, providing an option for them to sell may not be the worst idea, since they can go out with the money and start experimenting with players with lower potential, with the right training plan (+trainer and youth trainer without the infrastructure) and guidance, a player with 7 or 8 potential can easily make the U21 team as well (See Mata from previous season). This way, we can set them up well financially plus having a solid player moving forward. And it becomes a cycle as they can stop training the lower potential player who capped at a younger age and begin to train a beast with the knowledge and money they acquired along the way.

It will be a huge loss for the national team at both levels should these new owners lose interests after a while and quit or decide to train their entire team for their 1st season (which will be our responsibilities if we don't stay engaged through out their training) which makes communication super helpful at the very beginning. I believe our staff are well equipped to do so and Discord definitely help on that end.

I have reached out to new owners on Discord channel myself even before I decided to run, sharing my knowledge of the game to them and seeing the progress with their trainees on a regular basis is really rewarding, it keeps them motivated and we get great players in return.

This is probably the longest response by me in my BuzzerBeater career, so I will stop here for now.
