Press Announcements

From near bankruptcy to near title winners

The Mildcats began yet another season rudderless. Bloated payroll. Absentee front office. Fans worrying about possible administration as the front office sat silent for two and a half seasons. The ingredients for another "demise pie" were all there. And the Mildcats looked destined to etch their names onto the long list of defunct BB franchises.

Then just before the All-Star break, it was announced a new GM would be taking over. Fans had mixed emotions about the season up until that point. The Mildcats were winning, but it still felt like a roster of overpaid veterans who would come up short of a championship run.

Then in December, the new GM sold 6 players. Most, including myself, thought the long, slow rebuild was beginning. It was going to be arduous and painful. Fan favorite Mitch Snider seemed like he wasn't long for a transfer either, but then, after that apex win vs division leaders Rose City, the new front office made a few rather aggressive moves.

Rather aggresive might be underselling it. The Mildcats went all in on a title THIS season. You know, the season we all thought would be our last?!

Instead the Mildcats face RB Lakers in the Championship. Talk about polar opposites. Flush with cash, superstars, homegrown talent, and a 20k person Arena, the RB Lakers have been around for a while. Long gone are the salad days of NBBA playoffs, but RB Lakers fans have moved past that era and have been excited about this season, one which most RB Lakers fans thought a promotion back to DIII was almost foregone.

If there was a day this season where RB Lakers fans confidence has waned the most, it was today. The day the saw their f8nals opponent would be the Mildcats.

Those aggressive transfer moves we spoke of earlier? Well, both our new SG and SF were brought in specifically to matchup vs the title favorites. It did cost us some money to be sure, not only in transfer fees but salaries too. The new GM slashed 60k+ from the payroll around the All-Star break, only to add most of it back just before the transfer deadline!

If the Mildcats win, the investment will pay itself back 3x over, and all that DIII money will make a big difference long-term. Plus it seems these next two drafts are going to be very important to this front office.

If the Mildcats lose in the finals, it will have cost them more financially than any other club in FourFifteen. But ask any fan right now, and I am not so sure they care. This run has been incredible.
