The game manual says,
Best Position: As with the DMI, this is a very rough guideline, and some would even say a meaningless one. You should play your players at the positions that make the most sense to the team, regardless of whether it is his listed position.

From the second drop-down menu, you can choose which player positions to train. Players will only get better with a combination of out-of-game training and in-game experience, so you can have the coach choose to train one or two key players per week, who will then show a rapid improvement, or to train three or more positions with reduced effectiveness.
For a player to improve a skill, the position in the training plan must match the position they play on the court.

Can anyone tell me how the amount of active managers evolved over the last few years? I remember it were like 50000 in season 10 or something like that

Most of the time, 70 draft points is plenty to secure a good pick. Start with a Group Demonstration (10 points), which provides total skill information for 20 players. Interview the 4-5 players you find with a maximum (5-ball) skill level (2 points each). With luck, this strategy finds an MVP/Hall of Famer for 18-20 points. If that fails, individually Scout (1 point) unrevealed draftees. If they have max skills, follow up with an Interview (2 points). Unless you're very unlucky, at least one strong candidate should be found after spending 20-70 points.

The game will still go through if you only dress three players. This can increase your chances of losing the game.
The team with the worst record gets the top pick, no matter what the team status is.

I've been around a long time, but I don't actually know whether a player that fouls a lot - can you change this?

I have a rookie who has bad defense and has been almost fouling out of every game he has 30+ mins in. Once his defense gets better, will this fix or is there no way to fix this?

I believe slightly was the word they used. Yes, you could lower the rate of fouls with defense, but only slighlty. Shotblocking for shooting fouls, and OD (and ID?) for non-shooting fouls. You can also use tactical avoidance by predicting the lineup of your opponent and put your rookie on a player you don't expect he will use much in offense.

Edit: (314816.1) look under Players
