There was some validity in that advise which was a lesson learned.

Could of tanked the whole season rather than trying to stay up and by doing so winning 6 games and being half competitive

However there was still the jibe that I shouldnt have had my team in the ABBL because they didnt belong there and that the only reason they made it there was I stooped to a win at all costs mentality where by I brought a couple of players rather than training a team up

I think the message from the purists was that div 2 teams shouldnt aspire and use a win at all costs mentality to making it to the ABBL and by doing so, dirtying it with their presence. Instead they should wallow in div 2 indefinately until they can be deemed truly worthy

As explained earlier, this was what ruined you. You weren't gonna make it out of 8th and wasted so much more money on salaries when you could of tanked and had a tonne of cash back in D2

Being in the higher league is always more favourable than the one below as coming 8th in ABBL is far better financial wise than coming first in D2. Kudos to you that you managed to get to the ABBL by buying 2 massive players just before the playoffs to get you to ABBL. Once in the ABBL though, it was clear you couldn't maintain the players to compete with the rest of the teams there. This leads back to my main point that you should have tanked from day one :)

I don't believe this is true. I have always had a winning mentality rather than one focused on training. However, where you fell short was that even your normal strongest lineup was clearly a fair bit off from the rest of the teams. A lot of the stronger D2 teams were already beating the lower tier ABBLers when they promoted (e.g Me + Iwen in promoting season and Shanmag last season). However, this is no fault of your own where you came from a weaker D2 league when you promoted where your roster was superior to your D2 league counterparts but would not have matched up well against the other D2 promotee's rosters.

Actually won six games and finished 7th. If Doncaster Flames hadnt won their last couple of games, my team would have played a bot team in the relegation series

You have done a good job defending them but its interesting that the "purists" havent stooped to gracing this div 2 forum.

Before the All Star weekend I wasnt one of the six teams tipped to fight it out for promotion from Div II.3 in season 15.

If I hadnt of made the "small investments" that I did, I wouldnt have gained the experience and knowledge that i gained from the one season in the ABBL.

Of course one of those lessons was the "near death experience" with the bankruptcy rule.

Let Dire and the Trikster know that I have ambitions of winning the Season 20 ABBL championship.

Just gotta bluff my worthy competitors in this tough league into allowing my team to promote in the next few seasons

Fair enough. Forgot you finished 7th. The Jets tanked and focused on training all season though. Had they used their cash, they would not have relegated

True. But from Docaster's perspective, they would have rathered faced you than to face Iwen in the relegation series so they did all that they could to finish in 6th to play you and denying you a bot for the relegation series. They pulled off a few CTs to secure 6th and was rewarded by facing a weaker opponent (you) rather than Iwen.

Define Purists? I follow this forum because this was the league I promoted from and have followed a number of teams from this league.

A few purchases can change that no doubt. Buying a few 30 year old veterans a week before playoffs will change you from bare playoff team to a actual contender.

True. We all live and learn. The best part is that you can play this game your way. There is no set path to success. If you feel that your team will promote with 30 year old+ players that are cheap then there is nothing wrong with that. It is a legitimate tactic. Likewise, buying players 2 weeks before playoffs is another tactic.

It happens. You gambled and it payed off. You made it to ABBL. I think it was well worth it as the money you made (or would have made) would have payed off any debts real quick.

hahaha f*ck that, i'ma get to the ABBL anywhich way i can, tank the season and go bak down and dominate the poor div2 souls! and then do it all again

I dont have the millions so my team is reliant on my smarts (hence they don't have a lot of hope)

Hes even thrown his game in div 3 so as to have a crack at mine in the cup

only just bought a gun guard to play with smeltz a few days ago, we'll see how that pans out
if i can manage to pick up a few other players for cheap, a relegation battle could be in store ... most likely scenario would be relegation though. 8 games in and smeltz has yet to play a real game of ABBL ball yet
