hey guys

well i made the final however lost the 1st game at his home court

he always plays base offense / man to man

and i always play look inside / 3-2 zone

what defense should i be playing? because based on last game, i thought the end ratings were quite alright

http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/39288428/boxscore.aspx

it just seems he has a strong defense which i am working out how to get past

any help/guidance - greatly appreciated

Hey Roozer,

Base Offense is a fairly even offense, not weighted either heavily outside or heavily inside. I would suggest that you are on the right track with D, you could certainly also follow his lead with Man to Man or if your centre has really good ID and your PF has some sort of OD you could also give 1-3-1 a roll...

I won't say much on your O because I have a better feel for the guard focused offenses but maybe if you PF/C have good IS which it seems for your post they carry most the weight, you could play low post.. Good luck with what ever you choose.

well it looked like a very even game 1 with their ability to hit the long ball being the main difference.

you beat him on the boards despite playing 3-2 zone, so i reckon you should play man-to-man or as Brett said 1-3-1.

have you experimented using 1-3-1 with your side before?

offensively Look Inside looks your best option. maybe you can slide a 2 PF in at SF if you have one.

tbh you are right in with a chance in game 2 with the HCA. do you think you can beat him playing PO normal in the 2nd game?

disclaimer: i wouldnt take my advice too heavily because you have made it further than i have ever done. well done on that

hi mate, all good

i havent tried 1-3-1 zone before, but not sure if i should risk it, wouldnt he sink more 3 pointers doing that? if i only had 1 person on the outside?

my enthusiasm is at 7 but im sure he will CT me, so maybe to stay in it i might CT too (but normal is so tempting)

i am also running my other PF as a SF which seems to be alright (but i cant get their rating to a 10 or more!!)

thanks for the good words, but im sure your in a lot harder league than me which is why it would be hard to get to the top

in game 1, i was winning like 16-4 in the 1st qtr, and then my team just stopped? its weird how the game works like that

this is what the game manual says. '1-3-1 Zone: Dramatically increased perimeter defense at the expense of interior defense and rebounding.'

seeing as you appear to have a rebounding advantage anyway it shouldnt hamper you too much. by the sounds of it your perimeter defense should limit the amount of 3's, or good look 3's they get.

probably a bit risky in the finals, but maybe next season you can experiment with it a bit.

the question is are you thinking you can win the series or simply extend it to a 3rd game.

if you are thinking about winning the series you have to think about what game 3 will be like. for instance if he normals and you CT game 2 then it is all over with him having the enthusiasm advantage and HCA. but you never know. he might CT and you CT then you should be in the same state come game 3. just have to overcome the HCA which you almost did game 1.

if you are confident he will CT then in my opinion the CT seems the best option and then roll the dice in game 3.

i am also running my other PF as a SF which seems to be alright (but i cant get their rating to a 10 or more!!)

he will always get a lower rating because he lacks the outside ability that a SF needs. but with you playing predominantly inside offensively he will do the job. the only query is if you play 1-3-1 he will be too exposed on the perimeter. even when playing M2M he can be exposed if the opposing SF can play outside. but it could also work that way in his favour inside.

n game 1, i was winning like 16-4 in the 1st qtr, and then my team just stopped? its weird how the game works like that

i suppose it does make it realistic, as teams in RL basketball go on runs in a similar fashion.

Bains has probably summed it up mate, keep playing inside tre IS is good enough for div 3 if both players have that level. I would only offer one further bit of advice with 1-3-1. 1 (PG) is up about 1-2m above the 3 point line, your line of 3 SG - PF - SF are all lined up across the free throw, this way you have a larger than ever cover over the perimeter. Where you lose strength is in the key, only your C is down the back therefore you lose many rebounds than you are used to which gives them more shots... Really, best bet of winning, play the line up you think your team is best at and hey hope for the best :) Good luck with game 2 :D
