Power Rankings
The end of the season’s rankings are here, denoted next to the teams are the number of spots they went up or down from the preseason rankings which have been posted. Also a percentage next to the playoff teams are the estimated odds they win the league.
1. Pittsburgh Pressure +3 36.5% At the beginning of the season, everyone doubted me after Steinwender was sold off, I proved you all wrong, and despite a lose to SM in the final week, we are still #1
2. Jungle Fever +4 29.7% another team who was doubted by most, (not by me) the Fever have shown great results all season and very well walk away with a title, if they get passed me.
3. Green Gremlins 0 0% a preseason favorite has not disappointed and finished where they started, but now they bot?!
4. SM Lizards -3 19.8% in my eyes, THE preseason favorite, started out rough falling all the way to 11, but rebounded up to 4 to finished. With wins over Pittsburgh and Jungle Fever in the process! They are scary and pose a major threat in the postseason.
5. Galloping Sloths +5 12% I admit I was off on the sloths. The sloths continued to contend despite selling Stars throughout the season. Excellent skill by the manager
6. Boom is Art +3 .2%, A good season for Boom is Art, making the playoffs despi the loss to Pittsburgh. Unfortunately for them their reward is a rematch in Pittsburgh
7. Beachlife -2, In the Great 8 there were 5 worthy playoff teams, someone had to be left out, in this case it was Beachlife. Expectations were high and they were not meet.
8. Retired +8 2% the team projected to finish dead last punched well above their weight. With 10 wins they made the playoffs, A contender for surprise of the season.
9. Illiniwek -2 0% a good season for Illiniwek, although it ends in the first round due a team sell off.
10. Soulja’s +5, A better season than I expected for them, I don’t know what Soulja’s is actually thinking, A relegation series is on against Monkeykid, one Soulja’s should be favored in
11. West Side Tigers -9, just missing the playoffs after losing a de facto playoff game at Retired, Projected at #2 to start the season, I would say they under performed
12. Boilers25 +2, The boilers25 started boiling hot (pun intended), but cooled rapidly, and have a relegation series battle to prepare for, will be tough without Ganchev
13. Monkeykid -5, Monkeykid like SM started out slow, but unlike them, they never pulled it together, they will play Soulja next
14. Lion Rebels -2, demotion is confirmed for the Rebels, they just never got enough talent around Armstead
15. Redbull Lakers -2, Won a few games as expected, but really didn’t do much, although no one expected them to.
16. Righteous Rebellion -5, A sell off in the end, they will be able to have a last stand against Beachlife

Well if there's a time to "finally pull it together", this Relegation Series would be it. Let's see how it goes.

Yeah, lucky doesn't cover half of my win... after Alba misses the buzzerbeater in regular time... we go down by 5 fast in OT... then with time running out, Zak hits a 3 to tie, with enough time for Retired to score... but then Dolic (I think it was, one of my non-fouled out big men) somehow comes up with a steal, and after a set up pass, the go ahead, buzzerbeater dunk by Nurek. Wild.

Well with my season now over, it time for the Buzzerbeater season awards. Here are end of season awards, I am sure that someone will think I’m am full of it for the selections I made, but that’s life.
MVP
Nominees:Elbert Delgado SM, Konstanty Szlas Pit, Brett Kang JF
Winner: Brett Kang JF
Prior to the matchup against Jungle Fever, I had Konstanty Szlas, the BB pickers also agreed. Then came that game. Szlas vs Kang, 1 vs 2 in voting, and Szlas folded like a wet tent. He fouled, fouled, and fouled some more, Kang drops 59 and we lose. He single handedly changed the course of two franchises, one national team, and altered trajectories of 3 U21 teams. I always use the Moto “PlayoffPressure” for my team and Szlas chocked under it.
Sixth Man
Nominees: Homer Baker JF, Tilt Mand Ret, Lizwelicha Legodi, Pit
Winner: Homer Baker JF
Not much here, Baker is by far the best bench player in the league, actually started against me in the playoff, but still qualifies
Defensive Player
Nominees: Pablo Speeci RR, Jon Odell WST, Wei Kanghong BIA
Winner: Jon Odell
Odell might not have had the best stats but very few players scored over 10 on him.
Nightmare Matchup
Nominees: Brett Kang JF, Wayne Devine JF, Elbert Delgado SM
Winner: Brett Kang
One I found out the hard way. Kang drops 59 on Pittsburgh beating them all the way back to D4.
Mr. Consistency
Nominees: Konstanty Szlas Pit, Gerson Itarini B25, Luis Alba Sloths
Winners: Gerson Itarini
Gerson Itarini, league leading scorer showed the most offensive consistency of anyone I ever seen.
Most Underrated Player
Nominees: Kennedy Conomos Pit, Jeremiah Davis Ret, Greg Jardinero EAS
Winner: Jeremiah Davis
Instrumental in the playoff. Jeremiah Davis was one basket away from sending Retired to the finals.
Best Manager
Nominees: Jungle Fever, SM Lizards, Pittsburgh
Winner: Pittsburgh
Despite my lose to Jungle Fever, I still believe I was the best manager. After seeing the skill sets of Jungle Fever and SM Lizards players, I clearly outperformed them with far less talent than they had.
Biggest Surprise Team
Nominees: Retired, Soulja’s, Jungle Fever
Winner: Retired
Again Retired was one basket away from a finals date with Jungle Fever, this is a substantial improvement compared their preseason last place projection.
Upset of the Year
Nominees:
Rebellion over Illiniwek 07/17
Illiniwek over SM Lizards 08/14
Rebels over Sloths 08/10
Winner:
Rebels over Sloths 08/10
The Lion Rebels beating the Sloths seemed to be the biggest upset this season. Last place in the Great 8 beating the Big 8 conference champ, is the big upset.

Not that it will help us win... but posting those awards on the locker room wall... cuz it won't hurt. :)

Wow... I just did a rivalry report, and the Sloths and Jungle fever squared off once before... in season 39

7/25/2017 Jungle Fever Galloping Sloths 84 - 48

a far cry from the OT game they played this year.
