Yeah, something similar to that would suffice. Just weed out all the bot users and have the human managers eliminated in the first three rounds enter into a consolation cup. I don't have a perfect proposition or solution, but I just wanted to throw the thought out there as I think it would be fun.

Extra tournament is proposed to help newbies learn the game better ... and that would help newbies learn the game how?

I like the idea.. The tournament as it is is good but offers little hope to teams in lower divisions except some bonus money from a couple of bot rounds.

The problem would be implementing it, especially with the constantly changing numbers of users. Still would be cool to have a tourney where my team would get to player others form similar divisions and be competitive.

The problem is how would you stop stronger teams from tanking out of the national tournament so they can easily win the consolation cup?

Why not just help newbies understand and enter Private League, so they have the option and are not forced into a tourney?

Place a salary cap either on the tournament or on the divisional teams. This is a good topic to discuss.

And it's not necessarily for them to "learn the game better", it is for them to feel the added incentive of being new and still having something to work for.

True, and I agree. I just would prefer it to be an option for them rather than something forced upon them. One and out isn't much incentive.

I think this would be a great idea. In larger nations their are many great teams but will never make it higher because of a core group cemented into the top few leagues. These tournaments would hopeful add recognition to smaller but good teams.

I personally think going to a 2 stage format would make the cup much more equitable. As it is the cup is in the words of Frank McGuire 'Russian Roulette' http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1734&dat=197003...

First off for this to work GS will need to be reworked to kick more into effect later in the season which really would be very similar to real life.

the round of 1024 is not until the 4th round of the cup, leading of course to 512. break every country down into 512 five team groups=2560 with the winner of each advancing to the knockout phase. I am sure some sort of program of protocol can be put together to some balance in the group pairings, make all the games neutral court games
