This is why it is so hard to juggle success with the draft. You almost need to make a call 4-5 weeks into a season. If you are going well then stop scouting. Personally I prefer to not scout at all. I did for 5 seasons and got nothing but duds. I prefer to buy a player each season worth about 300K and another worth about 100K. I still get the trainees but not the disapointment. Save the money I say.

adding to my last post is the most important thing. I get to buy a player that suits where I want my training.

I'd actually say the better thing to do is the group demo because a skilled 19 year old is still better than a terrible 18 year old. I've done this for the past two seasons and despite having a bottom 2 pick both seasons have managed to get a $4500 player with good secondaries this year. I spent a couple extra points just to scout another 3-4 players but overall I'd agree with OP, I think spending more than a little money on the draft is generally a waste.
