Probably not many of you follow the womans games but there was massive news.

Liz Cambage dunks!

First ever dunk by a woman at the Olympics! Fantastic!

Beating the undefeated Russians though, that is a major morale boost after the loss against Brazil made it look like we had a certain date with the Americans and a tournament of achieving nothing. Now with one of Brasil or Spain having to lose in their final matchup we can still make 3rd depending on how the ladder ends up.

Whoever wins will go to 1st or 2nd but whoever loses will be 3rd or 4th.

We have +37 PD, Brasil +47, Spain +26. The worst result for us would be for Spain to have a narrow victory. We need Brasil to win or Spain to win by 11+. It is just like Buzzerbeater!

I've watched all of the mens and womens games and yes that dunk that Cambage did was special. She made it look so easy. Nothing too flashy but hey history is history!

One thing i've noticed about the opals is that the really lack in perimeter offense besides Snell. The PG hits a three every now and then and Jackson can be deadly from a pick n pop situation but other than that, they do not attempt many outside shots. I mean they have a starter in Screen who doesn't yak a jump shot all game. She has been wide open sometimes and still doesn't pull the trigger. When she's on the court the offense is basically 4v5. However she more than makes up for it on defence. Probably the best perimeter defensive player on the team.

But yeah just an observation.

If Penny Taylor had not missed through injury we would not have had that problem :(

I know that Mills hit the game winner but seriously and I don't mean to sound unAustralian, I enjoy watching the Aussies play both good and bad games but there was no need for him to attempt the 3 before that. Australia were in front and a 2pt shot or driving the lane and getting the foul would have put us up by 3 and even if Russia made both free throws wouls have us still up by 1 and no need to attempt that last 3.

Having said that well done to the team and goood luck againt the USA. Lets try and keep it respectable for as long as possible

Stupid Olympics. They use points for as the tie breaker rather than PD. Australia and Spain both have 3 wins and 2 losses. Australia has a +37 PD while Spain has only +20. But the stupid Olympics just looks at how much you scored and Spain has PF 414 and Australia has 410, so by a measly 4 points Spain advances to play France (beatable) while Australia has to take on USA (impossible).

That sucks!

Actually they measure it on head to head basis. Spain beat Australia therefore they win that tiebreaker between them.

Ah do they? In that case the game against Russia was totally meaningless for us, but still a great game.

YAY! Go the suns! I just love how they have Goran and Scola both together! Let's hope Harden comes to Phoenix next season, but he'll probably want a big paycheck and I'm not sure if that would be a good move...
