It's never been 100% reproducible... I would guess it happens to me the majority of the time.

To try to reproduce, go to any forum thread with more than 12 unread messages. Click on the plain forward arrow at the top of the thread (where the priority dropdown, etc. are). Most of the time that will not take you to the next page, but to the next page after the next page. If there are less than 11 more messages to be shown, you get a page with no messages at all.

I think it's kind of the same error as this one;

When there are new posts, you click on the topic to read it. Then when you click on the "previous posts" button, it goes back to the very 1st post, instead of the previous page.
The previous page button has the same effect as the 1st page button in this case.

It might be related, it might not. Probably best to keep that issue to the thread you already opened on it (16956.1) and not risk confusing the original issue.

Hmmm. I just tried a couple of the big Global threads, and things worked correctly (although they haven't in the past)... so I went to BB Rossiya and its first unread message for me was this: (10049.134). When I clicked the arrow, it went to (10049.155). So, there's an example. Maybe you can cross-reference with your web server logs, I don't know.

I just did another one in BB Global (English). This thread was completely unread to me with thirteen messages: (19885.1) When I used the forward arrow, I got a page with no messages, when it should have instead showed me the three messages starting with (19885.11)

is the difference perhaps then threads which have not been read by you before? versus those you have?

No. I had previously browsed through the Russian thread in the past.

Also, I just went to a thread in BB Rossiya that I hadn't read (18390.1), and it paged correctly for me.

I just tried browsing through numerous threads that had no new messages, and I had no problems there. So the presence of at least one new message may have something to do with it.

BTW, I noticed that I haven't mentioned I'm using Firefox, which might matter.

I have this issue (or actually both ones that have been mentioned in this thread) as well. I believe it happens on IE, and it definitely happens on Safari.

The forward error does not happen in every thread, but it happens in most. The backward error is even more common than the forward one.

can you identify a specific thread and link it here that does it all the time? if the same thread sometimes does it and sometimes doesn't its gonna be harder to track down.
