Didn't you just draft a good player? or aren't you active?

You know what happened to the markets! With the constant tidal wave of free agents hitting each week it has become worth a lot less to train guys. I have seen 21 year olds with multiple sensational skills going for $500,000. Why spend millions on a guy, then train him for several seasons when you can pick up the end product cheaper?

I confess I have benefitted from the free agents too. Picked up a couple of bigs who would have cost 2 million two seasons ago for 1/2 a million each.

Yeah, right about when Mllama started managing the U21 we lacked quality multi skilled players in the national team. I guess our emphasis on multi skilled players have meant that the U21 hasn't had those mono skilled players coming up as frequently.

The one and only problem with multi skilled big men as far as the U21 squad goes is kind of the problem that SFs have in the early stages. Early seasons are kind of slow without any major strengths but if you keep at it and train well, you see big pay off in the later years...

I agree with that 100%. I bought a 6'11 SG to train as a multi skilled big and I can assure you it is painstaking. His lowest secondary is mediocre passing and everything else is respectable or above which for a 20 yo is fantastic, but it has taken 2 seasons for his primaries to catch up to the same level. The problem with that is it has made it virtually impossible to get him up to speed for the U/21s and his potential isn't high enough for seniors...

I believe the way I am training is slower and more effective for the end result of what I need to suit my teams goals, but it is 1 less active manager with an U/21 prospect since I cant see him reaching that level in time. If I went for an 18 yo with all respectable primaries he would most likely be considered for the squad as a 20 yo, but would be a waste of the player I want for my teams set up in the long run.

but you would also get less maximum "peak period" out of him since once he is done, he will be older than alot of other "completed/capped" trainees and you couldnt get as many years in term of performance. if your looking to sell him off for profit as well.

It also doesn't help when none of the active managers can draft a good player at all. For 3-4 seasons now.

That is why I haven't spent a cent on the draft in about 3-4 seasons. Not when you can purchase the exact player you are looking for on the market for around the same price as top scouting costs for a season... But we do seem to fall short on what get drafted by some other countries.

He still has 2 seasons of his peak period left and he is pretty much done with secondary training. By the time he is 22-23 he will be a gun, but for now he is way behind the 8 ball. It is actually better than training secondaries to create a multi skilled U/21 player minus the fact they struggle to be compeditive for the first few seasons.

peak period = at his best. doesnt require anymore training to dominate. I dont know... I thought you said he will start training his primaries at 22? that would be bad since he is a real trainee who couldnt contribute so he doesnt really help the team.

I never said anything remotely close to that. I bought an 18 yo tall with guard skills so I could focus on primaries and have very little to do with secondaries. His primaries are about 1.5 seasons behind a normal trainee because of the low level of his starting primary skills. However should someone try to copy him when he is finished, they will lose just as much time trying to catch up to his secondaries...

Sure his peak will come a season or 2 later, but the 7-8 seasons after he reaches it will be better than a mono skilled player of a similar level.
