Yeah with the new salary cap I would NEVER spend that much money on any player at all. The Lightning can't have a player worth more than +75k a week so not many player will even be worth it. Which leads me to another point that's been irking me for a while now, and this is the perfect opportunity to say something. In the past few seasons I've been seeing managers drop the big bucks for players that simply aren't worth it. Like +200k for a guy who's salary is something like 18k? I can spend the same amount and pick up a Hall of Famer that's assured League mvp. You could've spent half a million on three SF's of the same skillset. If you're gonna drop 300,000-500,000 it better be on a super young guy you're planning to build you're team around, and I mean, revolves around this guy. Not because you need a little extra push going through a series, or because you're looking to add some more depth, This guy needs to be your primary priority.

Like this season alone I've seen you big 8 guys drop some explosive numbers on player acquisitions, yet you don't feel competitive enough against the great 8? Yo, I'm still going through some financial trouble that's been carried over from season 23, but if I had money to spend like that, I'd be so long gone by now. There's a sort finesse and coyness that goes into player signings. Like I'll take it back to the Wildbacks acquisition of Shunta, that was the first good trade I've seen gone down since Kirilinko a few seasons back. Personally, at age 34, I think you could've gotten the same player for 100k less, but all and all a solid deal. Here's the thing though, you're backcourt was already strong, If you had snagged a 31k salary in the frontcourt working in tandem with your sg (guess this doesn't really apply right now that he's injured though). I guarantee you'd be the strongest team in the league, right now, hands down. A PF or C worth 31k a week with a 23k sg? And role players that are producing double-doubles???? FORGET ABOUT IT!!! You'd be macking, two guards worth +20k and the rest of you're team at an average of 1-2k isn't good. Or instead of going all out on one player for close to 400k, you could've gotten like 3 guys around 10-15k that would've added contention depth to your squad. Remember, you don't have to be the best in the league to earn promotion, you just have to be the best in your conference, as the two finalists automatically get promoted, the playoff final is really just to see who get's promoted higher, which, personally, I would want to lose anyway just to get the lower seed. In the last 4 seasons, 3 League.16 champions have either been demoted, or finished in the bottom 3 spots of their respect conferences, with last years champions currently in 8th place making it 4/4. And let me tell you, if those guys were to come back, they'd each have perfect seasons, as all their competition have been promoted as well. However, the runner ups have been placing mid-table, even entering play-offs on occasion. So I think it would be smart to blow the finals, here's why, if you get promoted to high League IV then you butch it and get demoted again, you're ending up in like V.40's, but it might be full of competative managers all looking for promotion just like V.16 so you end up being stuck there for another couple seasons. However, if you tank the finals, you get promoted to say, IV 46 instead of IV 19 like the champion would have. This allows you to continue to build your franchise while your current squad should have enough depth to keep you out of relegation.

I don't think it derailed, information like that is exactly what I need. I'm a noobie ti this game but I'm learning all the time. Just over the last few weeks I've learned sooo much. I was going to purchase a player for $200,000+ just to get through the Great 8 but after thinking about it I decided that its not worth it. Thanks for the confirmation though... I needed that. I do buy cheap players to try and sell them to make a profit. That's OK right?

over the few seasons i played..i learned a ton myself..I too purchased a 200k player for a few weeks and suddenly dropped negative cash balance because of his high wages...I settled down with my few establashed veterans, tho old, but i have been keeping my salaries where i am working myself back in the 'green' I steadily established a larger stadium.
I think i have a decent team of players, tho someone said i could cut down a few of them (saying 13 having only players is good) I havent put much depth into establish the traning as much as needed, Last season proved how bad i was when i promoted and got hammered by tougher competition.
To SyracuseOrange...I scouted your team..impressive Centers.

I did get that SF to be the center-piece. Yeah he's expensive and mid-aged at 25. But with my attendance averaging in mid/high 90s lately I took the dive because let's face it, this is a business simulation. This guy is guaranteed to contribute substantially and give us that final push that will max out this arena. While some of you play the conservative nibble-spending game, you fail to realize that big business is more often than not a direct result of a 50/50 gamble falling in your favor at the opportune time. Only for me this was more like a 70/30 success/failure gamble. Let me explain: Last summer when I created this team my sole priority was to develop big men. There is a reason why the Center position is called "Center" I immediately began investing in bigmen, dropping a few along the way. I made it a mission to develop rebounding, inside scoring/ defense skills and surrounding them with borderline solid to truly solid players.

This formula proved to be successful my first couple of seasons finishing 14-8 my 1st season with a first round loss followed by another 14-8 season with a conference finals loss. The training was slow, and frustrating. Eventually in my second season they started popping all while in the meantime I was adding young players with great potential to my roster. My team remained solid up until this point in this season. However, I felt uneasy. I felt insecure about my squad. With just my bigmen producing consistently and the others being the opposite of that coupled by their horrible perimeter shooting, I knew I was missing something and that was a star to close our games. Too many times had we lost close games because noone could pick up the slack when my bigmen weren't feeling it. So I went shopping. I knew SF was the position to go and I knew I needed someone capable of putting up numbers. Sure he's expensive as hell, but think about the chess piece now on the board. No longer will people be able to just worry about my big men. They will have to worry about my SF as well, demanding a man to man defense and I'm not even going to get started on the ever increasing defense of my guards.

With the new addition I can be almost assured at the least a 85%+ attendence from now which will cushion my "financial fall" so to speak and slowly, but surely build me back up. If this proves to be unsuccessful, so be it. I'll just train the SF for a month or two and shop him and get equal if not more than what I got for him. I do intend on tanking the playoffs, not even going to the finals... Above the Rim can have the title. I want to be in this League for at least two more seasons because I won't be promoted without having stellar defensive players. I won't play the conventional way. I won't go with the flow. Never been the kind of guy. I like taking chances. If anyone has watched my activity over the last few seasons, they've seen that. This is the time to do it.

sure, if you think you can actually make a profit off of them, keep in mind the transfer market average cost, the length of time you had the player, and the number of recent transactions you've made

My comment wasn't directed at you specifically, I was just using you're recent purchase as way of addressing an issue I've been meaning to. When I was saying the frontcourt/backcourt thing that was directed at the Wildboys. Anyway I'm not saying DON'T spend big, I'm saying do it wisely. The purchase of half a million on that SF was just not worth it from a strictly financial view point. As far as franchise success that's a different story and the purchase itself can be justified any number of ways, I'm talking STRICTLY financial right now and from a STRICTLY financial POV I know for a fact that you could have payed the same money and come out with either three of the same skilled players, or a couple younger guys with higher potential. You're Small forward could've been purchased for around 250,000-300,000, you might have even found him for less than 200k if you're searching at the right time, you could have spent that money on a player that would not only over instant contention but also future contention. I don't really know what you're talking about in this gamble thing. I'm not failing to realize anything about this simulation, how many seats you're arena sells is determined by your teams success not how well they play or how exciting the games are, fans care about winning period, unless the majority of your seats are luxury boxes and court side seats. So this doesn't really look like a gamble to me at all as you could've spent less money and still gotten a winning combination. Yeah he might push your team into the winners circle, heck he could make you guys the strongest team in the league right now for all I know, all am saying is that you could've spent half a million dollars a lot better and I'm not making that a personal attack against you, I'm just throwing out some advice to the other managers in the league. I mean by the end of the day spend whatever you need to make your team competitive, just be aware of when you can get a better deal and what a player is really worth.

Advice is good, and my plan is to win the conference so if Syracuse is willing to give it up... I'll take it. I really need about another season to get my guys up to where I feel we can be really a force. I don't understand JMac why you would spend $500K to not win? you could have kept the team you had and done just the same.

I'm definitely not calling you out or questioning your decision making but I don't know anyone who spends that big, this late in the season... if they're not trying to go all the way.

I can get a rough estimate from the DMI index and the players salary. Don't need to know his specific skill sets to know how good he is. I'm not saying he's bad, far from it! I'm just saying he's just not worth that money unless he was maybe a couple years younger and you had a high level trainer. The best training years are 18-22. But if you don't believe me this might put it in perspective, http://www.buzzerbeater.com/team/31913/overview.aspx this guy is one of my good friends, got promoted a couple seasons back, looks like he's been consistently finishing mid table every season since then. A SF of around the same age and salary earning as your guy would be a role player in this league. Which would make more sense, spend half a mill on a roleplayer in a mediocre league or get two role players of slightly less value with the same money that would give your team more depth? Again I'm not picking on you, it's just while we were on the subject of overpriced guys I thought I'd bring up a trend that I've been seeing for the last couple seasons. It's just something that needs to be said, I've already run into EIGHT players picking up this game that spend their starting 300k or whatever on one or two players that just aren't worth it because they don't know how the game works, their salary ends up eating away at their income, they spend the rest of the season having to develop their franchise with only and income of like 5k a week while their washed up players aren't performing, get tired of losing and quit the game thinking it's stupid.

I understand what you are saying, totally, but I have bigs that can produce. They may not score as much but having both of them averaging just over 12 rebounds a game is very good. I am, though, looking for a C that can give me more, and if any of you have any options, don't be afraid to help me out. I will do the same in return.
