Either I'm messing up my tactics, all of my opponents got much stronger, or Broussard is more important to my team than first thought. I need to pull my team together :/

Once again my highest scorer and arguably best player does not play in the last three minutes of a close game. The game engine is really starting to annoy me

It is wired, did the starting one play too many minutes?
Maybe you should try the option of the coach in the last quarter. Don't use it often but it may work the way you want it to.
