It is just the rights to the name NBL are probably owned by NBL and the BBs don't want to get sued.

Even if it is good publicity for them I doubt they would want us taking more basketball fans away from them. lol

It doesn't have to be the name of the real league it just has to be something a bit more inventive than Division I.1

I don't mind Australian National League. Anyone got any more ideas?

We also have the Tournament Cup to think about renaming as well.

Some examples from other countries:
Brasil:
Copa do Brasil
Brasil Liga Nacional
Italia:
Coppa Italia
Italia Serie A

Cup -> Australian Club Tournament

To the best of my knowledge no Australian sport has a "Cup" equivalent at the national level. (We participate in various World Cups, but don't do it nationally)

In basketball the closest thing I can think of is that McDonald's international club tournament where the winning clubs of various comp's around the world get invited to an elimination tournament. Hence "Australian Club Tournament" or "Australian Invitational" something like that.

Top League -> Australian National League

State cricket used to have a Cup tournament for one day matches but I think it's a round robin style comp these days. The AFL pre-season comp is a Cup format though ... but that doesn't help name our Cup comp does it.

I like any of the above choices.

Yes, they sound good.

The NBL wouldn't sue the game!!! im sure they couldn't careless if we used the NBL as a new for a sim manager basketball game, seeing that the NBL is the top league in Australia. They may even sponsor us :)

Ok I will suggest National Basketball League and if the BBs don't want to take the risk of a copyright infringement then they will use it. Otherwise I will say the backup name is the Australian Basketball League.

So is everyone up for the Battlers Tournament?

It is good to see you active on the forums Simmo

I was watching your team while I was in the Italian division with interest. It was caning all who came up against it in Cup and Regular Season.

It will be good to have some great competition in the league.

Sounds good to me ... only change I'd make is to call it The Battler's Cup

It is as the BBs feared The NBL do not want to let us use it for free. I wrote to them and enquired about it but they want to charge us.

Hi Niko, thanks for the enquiry. We would consider authorising use of the NBL's intellectual property in exchange for a license fee if you're interested. If you are, we would need further information about your game, for example the price, the markets you are or intend to be in, the quantities you expect being sold and further information about the game itself.
Regards
Jeff
