The worst team of every group gets relegated automatically (except for the lowest leagues).
Actually there's a useful part on this website which might be worthwile being read:
(http://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/rules.aspx?nav=ever...)The end of a season isn't all fun and glory, however. Four teams from each division will be demoted to a lower level of divisions. The 8th seed in each conference is automatically demoted, and the 6th-ranked team from each conference competes with the 7th-ranked team from the other conference in a best-of-three relegation series. The fifth-ranked teams are safe, but they dont get a shot at the championship, either.
So as you're in the lowest active league in Australia, you could try to finish 8th in your league if you want to get the first draft pick. But there are some things to consider:
1) Losing matches will harm your fan survey which means you'll make less money through gate receipts and merchandise.
2) Finishing 8th will hurt your fan survey for the following season ("I am pleased with the team's performance last season") so you'll also make less moeny then.
3) have a look at this link:
(http://www.buzzerbeater.com/league/12690/draftSummary.asp...) Last season 15 out of 16 teams got the rookie they had listed first in their draft order. So there's no real use of losing matches on puropose for you.

We have both said a lot of things that you are going to regret.
