I don't even remember what the coaching ratings were...I think, for instance, you'd have a higher coaching rating if you played 2-3 against an inside offense. We were all guessing about many things back then and the rules changed often. Those that predicted the effects of the rule changes (and the game generally) did better. Nobody knew what to train. People cared about DMI. There was a period that training took place at double speed. For a while, the transfer market essentially didn't exist. New tactics were introduced. Potential was introduced. Daytraders nearly wrecked the game for a couple seasons. Wild times.

That was quite a few season in IIRC. From the start training was much slower than it is now, like HT training slow.

If I had to guess, it was season 3 or 4. I'd forgotten about the super slow training -- it effectively didn't happen at all. I remember checking the transfer list to see if a player was on it.

so in the early days there wasn't even anyone available to sign? interesting...
the insanely high prices paid for older players makes a lot more sense now. all 3 rounds of the draft must have really mattered too.

I remember paying around 1m for this player (2255545) who didnt have a skill higher then respectable. Though, almost all of his skills were respectable and he could play pretty much anywhere, was was rare find in the early seasons.

Actually, one of the funnier things i recall from the first couple seasons is that many teams were complaining about bot teams being too good. Back then, bot stomping had a different meaning

You paid closer to 2 for him. I'm pretty sure that was the highest fee paid at the time. He had exactly 7 in every skill. He was probably one of the best SFs in the game for a couple more seasons.
