Taking a second look at the lineups I put out I made a MAJOR mistake and basically scuttle butted Makeba, and we could have used something out of him. Though Manopea (misspelled I know) did play a helluva game. Manzini being in crappy GS clouded my decision making, Nkosi seemed like a good choice but he couldn't hold up and fouled out quickly. Mini as the backup in that role left a lot to be desired as we again just got whipped on the boards. I would have liked to have gotten us back to the world cup for next season BUT we saw how that played out last time around, so maybe going into consolation action is not a bad thing. Hopefully we can garner a good draw and win some games. Lots of guys will be back next, however there is no one who can replace Poll. Yet, great as he was, he SHOULD have turned out to be a better balanced player than he did as I feel the concentration on building his inside shot to the detraction of other attributes short changed his development. Matomelaa bought a great presence with his OD, but also is someone who could have been built more effectively. Manzini developed well, but for some reason his owner pretty much let his GS turn to ass the last three weeks and that really hurt us.
Of those coming back who will be 21 next season. Nkosi has some solid DR, and a good JS, will need inside skills rotated though.
Mini is developing well on the right side of the attribute list, but the left side is lacking. Again it's that 7 foot point guard thing. I'm still of the school where you look at height and where his skills tend to trend to see where to take a player. And this guy needs to have lots of inside training with the accentuation on SB and ID as those traits are closer to being on the verge of meshing well with the attributes already established.
Bleek: scorer or stopper? that is the question, you cant have both in one season. The latter is better for him long term, the former better for U21 needs.
Dunker: same boat, but sturdier from mast to keel. Should have a breakout season next campaign.
Hayden: developing into a finesse three, good JS, ok HA and DR, a IS that is coming along. Lacking in PA and SB. Another case of where his managers concerns lie, if with his overall development he gets training in what is lacking, if on making a player who is productive as possible in the short term for his needs, and ours, then his strengths will be accentuated.
Makeba: JS is pretty good, HA and DR need some attention. Plus concentrating on those will lead to some improvement on the JS and even on the OD. And going the 1v1F route will by seasons end have a player who will be very dangerous for the future
Khomane: good DR and HA, OD will need work, though short term hitting the JS and JR will have more immediate impact for us.
of those turning 20 next season
Johnson: pretty much a wasted, no not pretty much, COMPLETELY a wasted season of potential.
Jaga: another guy who COULD be somebody but who now probably will not :(
Mase: great potential but he did start so far behind the line on TSP. but he is getting better and could see a breakthru season on the horizon
mamoepa: Oh this guy is going to be a stud. The shot is already there for a guy his age. Get that HA and DR up and the quality of those opportunities improve, just saying.
The pipeline is a major concern. We must do a better job of developing players. I know the conventional wisdom of training is not sexy, but it works and those who follow those methods, even small fries like Egypt, reap the rewards.
