Training plan and week-by-week breakdown
The following is a potential training plan designed for a young (18-19 year old), high-potential guard. Adjust the duration and focus based on the player's initial skills, age, and potential:
Key Principles:
Full Training Minutes: Ensure your trainee plays a minimum of 48 minutes per week at the designated training position to receive full training benefits, according to the BuzzerBeater manual.
Youth Trainer: Utilize a level 4 youth trainer for optimal skill growth in younger players.
Elastic Effect: Skills that are already higher tend to train faster, so capitalize on this by prioritizing initial strengths and utilizing skills that provide a boost to other skills like Handling to Outside Defense.
Phase 1: Foundation (Weeks 1-12, approximately 1 season)
Focus: One-on-One Guards training to develop Handling and Driving, which will also improve Jump Shot and Inside Shot, providing a strong base for an RnG guard.
Goal: Reach respectable to proficient levels in Handling and Driving, and at least mediocre in Jump Shot and Inside Shot.
Training Schedule:
Weeks 1-6: Train One-on-One Guards.
Weeks 7-12: Continue with One-on-One Guards.
Rationale: Builds crucial ball-handling and penetration skills, which are essential for creating shots in RnG.
Phase 2: Sharpshooting and Defense (Weeks 13-26, approximately 1 season)
Focus: Jump Shot, Jump Range, and Outside Defense.
Goal: Reach respectable to strong levels in Jump Shot and Outside Defense, and at least mediocre in Jump Range.
Training Schedule:
Weeks 13-18: Train Jump Shot (Guards).
Weeks 19-22: Train Jump Range (Guards).
Weeks 23-26: Train Outside Defense (Guards).
Rationale: This phase develops the primary scoring and defensive skills necessary for an effective RnG guard.
Phase 3: Versatility and Refining (Weeks 27+, ongoing)
Focus: Passing, Stamina, Free Throw, and potentially further improving key skills or addressing weaknesses.
Goal: Continue to develop well-rounded skills, maintaining high levels in core RnG skills. Aim for a balanced skill set that adapts to your team's needs and opponents' strengths.
Training Schedule:
Weeks 27-30: Train Passing (Guards).
Weeks 31-32: Train Stamina (Guards).
Weeks 33-34: Train Free Throw (Guards).
Weeks 35+: Flexibly train the most needed skill for your team's current situation, such as further developing Jump Shot, Outside Defense, or adding some Inside Shot/Inside Defense to bolster versatility.
