Haven't found anything to this end. My three worst free throw shooters are right up with the most likely to draw fouls on my team.

I think free throws are somewhat random, with a number of factors built in; what tactic you're using, skill level of the offensive player versus the defense, and the hidden aggression skill, among others, all likely play a role.

The more you drive to the paint (inside-oriented tactics), the more likely you will draw fouls.

This means that FT would be considered in the shot making decision for the last minutes of the game (or the entire game... or never). Perhaps one of the gurus in analytics (Moutlinho, Josef_Ka) can give us some insight on this.

Maybe he was beating 3-2 zone and then poor shotblockers pf and c used to foul against him?

After he beats man, who guards him, he drives to the rim. So pf or c tries to close the window and fouls..

One time I had a C with poor JS and IS, but great PA (10) and FT (16, I think). In a close game when he played on SF or PF, in the last minute he started shooting on every possession even thought there were much better shooters around him. At first I was baffled, but then I understood the coach wanted him to get to FT line. He did two times (I didn't win that game). However, this particular game made me think you are right with your theory, but I'm not sure completely.

conversely, the other team was happy to let such a player be taking shots late in the game. and occasionally they would make a mistake and foul him.
