My understanding is that the rating is purely an indicator of how he looked while playing. Just because he put up better numbers doesn't mean he was necessarily the better player. I use it as an indicator along with his stats to determine how good a player is.

The rating is an indicator of how a player played in that game. Just looking at stats is a big fallacy and as mentioned defense is a hidden attribute not shown on the box score.

Is your player really that good if he scores 20 points a game but lets in 40?

I didn't take in to account the defence but I will look into that.

Regarding the shooting percentage, it's not necessarily that it is higher, it is more than he has made more of his shots, in less time, and has no turnovers. I just thought they would at least be the same rating. But I will look into the defence, cheers!

Player rating is a reflection of a player's skills as they are used by the game engine during a game. It has very little to do with performance.

hmm okay. I always though the player rating was a reflection of how well the player did on the court.
So what can a manager use, or deduce from the player ratings?

Just one thought... I've noticed that you said "3 less minutes... and only scored 2 points less". That equates to Fodi scoring 1 point every 3 minutes (or 16 points if he played 48 minutes) while Cerdenia scored 1 point every 2.5 minutes (or 19.2 points for 48 minutes). What others mentioned (defense and such) is probably why the ratings were different. I just wanted to point out that Cerdenia was scoring at a higher rate (although this doesn't explain the discrepancy as well as others already have).

As far as the use of the ratings... on a game by game level I mostly ignore them. In whole I feel they are a good way of getting a feeling for how a players doing and what level (V, IV, III) they could play at and how good their overall game is. My best player doesn't always have the best rating each game but he does have the highest average rating.

Player ratings do not play a major factor in determining MVP. If he was putting up good stats and was part of a winning team then he would get a good chance of getting the MVP award. Ratings is irrelevant.

Never said player rating was everything, I just think it's a good estimate when comparing players. A 10 isn't that different from a 9 but he's a lot different from a 5.

As far as MVP, it's also based on games played. Since you were in level V, my guess would be there was a lot of turnover (players and bots coming and going) just like the level V I as in last season so not many players with enough games played to qualify. You had a great record and only one other player had as many game on your team and a higher rating. Your player with a 10.1 last year played in only 9 games. Perez rating went from usually being between 4 and 5 at the beginning of the season to being between 6 and 7 at the end. You were probably training him since he was 18. Your other guy with a lot of games (22) only had good scoring and not much else statistically. Since defense has no statistic, I wouldn't expect anyone with high ratings due to defense to ever win MVP (just like real life players who are mainly a defensive stopper).

Side question, how do you view MVP voting? I never checked who won in my league last season because I knew it wouldn't be any of my guys.
