Philippines' U21 opens Repechage tournament with a 47-point drubbing of Argentina's U21Andre Gabuna lead all starters with 19 points,
Rojun Abamongga and
Cristirose Valdez came off the bench and scored 16 points each,
Ramsey Paspe also came off the bench and grabbed 8 boards while shooting an efficient 6 of 8 from the field,
Charlie Tambanillo had a rough night making just 4 of his 14 shots but still managed to dish out 4 assists and a block.
Cyrus Ortega also let his presence felt on both ends of the floor chipping in 10 points including 6 rebounds and a game-high 3 blocks.
Tambanillo and Ortega opened the scoring for Philippines by nailing a jumper and a corner 3-pointer during the game's first 30 seconds. Argentina countered by scoring the next 10 points highlighted by Joel Santos' scoring outburst. That was the last time the Argentinians had the lead as Philippines followed with a blistering 16-2 run that included 3-pointers from Gabuna and Ortega. Agentina's coach was forced to call a timeout to stop the bleeding but the quarter ended with the Philippines up by seven points, 25 β 18, after the first quarter.
The Filipinos continued their onslaught heading into the second half and never looked like losing, taking advantage of their opponent's weak perimeter coverage to bring their lead to 22 points going into garbage time. Philippines rested their starters at the 4-minute mark of the 3rd quarter and played the reserves the entire 4th quarter. Argentina couldn't recover from the hole they dug up and ended with their lowest scoring quarter of the game to cap the final score of
110 β 63.

Our players gave their best to perform well in this world qualifiers hopefully we can continue this kind of chemistry and luck. I would like to congratulate and thank the managers of each player who made it to our U21 team, keep the good job and train your players hard. For those prospects who didn't make it to the team, they still have a chance on making it, just keep me updated on their weekly pops and train them harder. Iβd like to thank also our Filipino community as this is a big win is for all of us. For now we need to get back on the drawing board for us to improve more and prepare for the upcoming games for our team. I wish all the best for our team.
