Cup Watch

We finally reached the quarterfinals of the Singapore cup with 6 SBBL and 2 league II teams. Things can only get tougher here as only the elite will remain.

The reloaded and re-tinkered roster of SG Young Guns will take on league II.2's ranked 34, Serangoon BBC. SG Young Guns recently went on a free agent shopping spree, loading its already great roster with even stronger cast consisting of G Marek Bujak and big man 7' 3" Enrique Toro. But its the old man, Hasse Niemivaara who just took over as the league leader in scoring with 26.8ppg, still getting it done at the offensive end. Hasse Niemivaara can also get dish it out when needed (4.7 apg). When other players of his age are hanging up their jerseys or seeing more time on the bench, Hasse Niemivaara is still showing youngsters that he can ball. And Serangoon BBC's G Patrick Côtelle and G Leung Ghee Soon will have front seats for The Hasse Show with the task of guarding the prolific scorer. Serangoon's F,Wira bin Dewan, leads the team with 15.2ppg, 10.1 rpg and undersized but powerful C Ignacio Donella does the dirty but important job of collecting offensive rebounds (2 orpg). SG Young Guns have all the players to win this but Serangoon BBC, having taken down NEWBak Ku Teh Kings earlier in the cup, cannot be totally counted out.

The no1 team in Singapore, who blew by Flyer Sonic last week by 72, Compassvale United (CPU) will go up against the top team in league II.4, JOLAS BALLERS. If JOLAS BALLERS G David Sota and C Iván Fivaller are not religious people than they might want to consider being one because most of JOLAS BALLERS best players plays the same position as CPU, and CPU's players seems to be on a whole different level. David Sota, the top scorer of JOLAS, will likely be playing crafty G Yeo Tse Hui throughout the entire game and CPU has tons of options like Tanausu Galeno, Lin Baoxiang and Huo Xiangsong to throw against JOLAS' veteran C, Iván. Maybe even fan favourite F Divyagovrsabhadhvaja Manjit (gd luck to the announcer) will make a rare appeareance to defend against Iván. JOLAS however doesnt have many options to go against F Ruudi Kallas, who is still an extremely efficient and accurate shooter, having shot less than 50% in only 5 out of 18 played games with a good number of them attempting over 15 shots. JOLAS can only pray that everything goes wrong for CPU and right for them tommorrow at the Compassvale Indoor Stadium.

They have played with each other many times in the past seasons but this time Shohoku Backers will be visiting Singapore Showstoppers(SSS) in an exciting Singapore Cup match. Last league game between the 2, SSS came up on top with an 108-83 win and veteran G Urbano Di Giuseppe scoring 34points. SSS still has to watch out for the same man, Shohuku F Daugalis Å pilevskis who dropped 31pts during their last meetup in the league. It is also a good idea for SSS to watch out for the sensational rebounding capabilities of C Alfred Ethan Capatan and F Simone Mocini. Shohoku will definitely rely on those 2 for those easy 2nd chance points so SSS should keep them off the boards at all costs. Shohoku's new acquisition, Lo Cheng Li, will be having his first test against SSS's G Ong Yi Ying. It should be exciting to watch the 2 scoring guards battle it out to see who is the better scorer and facilitator for the team. It is not the first time the 2 teams met so they should be familiar with each other's offensive and defensive tactics. If Shohoku wants to take some risk and come up with something new to surprise SSS's defense it just might work, otherwise SSS can just stick to whatever tactic works for them in the last league game. Still, this game can go anyway since both team's players are pretty even.

Last but not least, its the match between man city and man u! or wait it is liverpool and man U! No la, its actually a great quarterfinals matchup between Shwe Toe Ngal(STN) and Singapore FC. The last time the 2 teams clashed, Singapore FC took the win by 12pts with Perry Puesta shooting a red hot 6-7 from the 3pt land for a game high of 32pts. However, during that game it was clearly seen that STN players did not put in full efforts for whatever reasons. After facing Xavis' FSX during a recent league game, Singapore FC's C Ng Huat is going to have a tough lesson again as he will likely defend against STN's top scorer "Fake Korean", F-C Huang Tae Young. Though if Tae Young does have a bad night, STN has plenty of players in his balanced roster that can also score as well. Most STN starters like G Ziya Erk, C Manuel Irarrázaval and C Velimir Kunić (who is rumoured to be negotiating contracts with another team as we speak, we wish him all the best if he leaves SBBL) averages double digit scoring. Singapore FC, like always, will rely on his strong guards like Perry Puesta, who seems to have figured out how to carve up STN's defence (averages 25.8 ppg, 5.6rpg in 5 games against STN) and future hall-of-famer, speedy G Yap Jing Sze. F-C Lau Tse Tung is also no slouch, averaging a double double of 13.0 ppg and 10.2 rpg. With so many good players and matchups on both sides, I cannot guarantee this will be a high scoring game but it will for sure be a close and exciting one.

Audi* interview

im pretty upset by Perry puesta and Sqx performance today. bad mistake made by them that cause us this big game that we don't deserve to lose. As im looking forward toward facing com in the final, but well, since we are out, pointless to look back but to wish stn all the best and hope com will be this year champ once again!!

Perry puesta: fall into such a stupid trap set by stn and got himself foul out in the early game
Sqx: was being set to be a successor for Yjs, but fail to keep him cool, when almost 2min left, losing by 4point, he went on and got himself foul out.

meanwhile Audi* took this chance to slam at the ref for being bias, favor stn. This ref is not a man, such a soft contact and he take it as a foul, ended up stn won the game due to large amount of free throw given to them. He believe that ref did some underground betting, hoping bas would investigate..

Singapore Cup, Season 22: Quarterfinals

A great battle of best of 8, 6 o the sbbl started in this royal battle, however team of Singapore FC, SG young gun, and shohoku Backer will be heading to next season cup tournament again.

Singapore FC 86 - 98 Shwe Toe Nga
One of the heated match in the season, Singapore FC who aiming to stand in the top of the league, having a sensational season facing Shwe Tow Ngal. In the 1st half of the game, it was a competitive match, till the start of the 2nd quarter onward, something went very wrong. Perry Puesta one of the play maker seem to be having trouble handling Ziya Erk whom having 4 trouble for just the 1st quarter. During the match, Puesta nearly got a technical foul for arguing with the ref. Losing his cool in the game, he started demand the ball and jack up reckless shot or playing 1 on 1 with Erk resulting the huge point different in the game. By the end of 2nd quarter, he was 5-13 in the game and 3rd quarter he was on his way to the bench. Singapore FC captain YJS and SQX when on quiet night went on a 6-21 FG. Ng huat another rising young star having a good game with 30 points 5 rebound. stn's combo guard Erk and zdankiewicz who combine a team high of 21-28 in FT. stn get a favoring call whose team get alot of FT and steal a win in the game. Manager Audi* seem to be unhappy during the whole match by keep shouting "biased".

SG Young Guns vs. Serangoon BBC 78 - 90
It is thought to be an easy match result in unexpected, playing against a div 2 team, young guns decide to send out his B team with main starter, Carlos Secco and newly bought Marek Bujak to try it. However BBC team decide to all out against young guns. New guy Marek Bujak seem wanted to impress his new owner by showing his range, however the ball is not falling result in missing alot of chances in offensive and he got 1st foul out in his Singapore game. The whole team was 5-28 in 3FG. BBC superstar Ignacio Donella having a great night with 20 rebound and 22 pts doing a great job at the paint area. most of the point also come from free throw where the team was 23-30 in the game. In conclusion never under estimate a div 2 team.

JOLAS BALLERS vs. Compassvale United 62 - 107
A 1 sided game, as a number 1 CPU get an easy win. Remy Wisgerhof with a 23 pts. When a comfortable lead with 8-18, the coach decide to rest his key player and check in the fans favorite "blablabla Manjit". The crowd when crazy and giving him a stand ovation shouting "blabla Manjit, blabla Manjit". although he was 0-2 tonight, each shot he attempt, the crowd will gone crazy about it. Petrakis Tassopoulos the only guy who was trying, he was 13-38 in a FG tonight. Rest of the team was looking lost or afraid to make shot. he was 30pts 3 assist and 3 stl.

Shohoku Backers vs. Singapore Showstoppers 53 - 116
Another 1 sided game, as shohoku backer decided to send his b team over to face the singapore showstoppers. After battling against NANDA and showstoppers, SB starter player are almost tired and have to give up on cup game. Without knowing this, showstopper send out his starter to play with him. Xiangjia looking zero motivation after seeing his rival. He was on a quiet night of 10 pt 7 rebound. Lin shoon chun a constant contributor has a good night with 22pts 3 assist and 2 blk. Eldridge Gomes one of the veteran was having his season high in free throw of 10-12 and an early bench.
