Something similar happened to me in yesterday's scrimmage (135009166) that I won by 62 points. After setting my lineup on Wednesday (I think) player rotations in two positions were completely messed up for some reason. The player on the first position I set as sub and reserve (53851841) ended up playing from the start and getting 40 minutes, while the player (54162165) I wanted to have as a starter in the end got only 8 minutes. Similar for the other position, the player I set as the backup (49219294) ended starting the game and getting 41 minutes, while the "starter" (54162166) only got 7 minutes.

I double-checked by loading former match tactics and I had everything set up right and not the way the GE chose in the end. This is now really annoying, as I have severely messed up playing minutes for this week and we are nearing the end of the regular season, where game shapes should be high. That also kind of messed up some of my training for this week.

Has there been any success in looking into these lineup issues?

Did you use "Coach picks from the depth chart" or "Let Coach Decide" ?

Yes, the good old standard question and perhaps the part of the problem... I failed to see earlier that I had forgotten to choose the "Follow depth chart" option, which I normally always use, so it was set as "Let coach decide". This is on me. So I guess the weird distribution of minutes definitely can be explained by this, partly at least. But it couldn't surely affect, that the players I set as subs just were picked as starters for the game, right? The GE surely does nor defy the lineup roles that I have set as manager?

Based on my experience, when using "Coach picks from the depth chart" or "Let Coach Decide," the coach will substitute players based on their abilities.
If a backup is significantly stronger than the starter, the coach will let the significantly stronger backup start the game.
