The Bacoor Blades lose their second straight after failing to keep pace with Big 8 #2 seed CleMeNZas Spaghetti Sauce, ultimately getting downed, 98-79 at The Bacoor Forum.

It was the close game at the first quarter, with the the visitors leading by only one, 24-23. A methodical breakdown of the Blades' defense ensued from the second quarter on that culminated on a third quarter storm that blew the game away as they only allowed the Blades to score 13 points for the period. They would continue to hang on to their big lead until the final buzzer without allowing a possible comeback from the home side.

Dingdong Dominic Velasco led the charge from CleMeNZas with 30 points, five rebounds and six assists. He is backed by Jun Wesley Sorongon's 23 points and five assists. Elviro Ching notched a double-double for them with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Blades were led by Iliya Dimov's 22 points followed by Kelly Paul's double-double of his own with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Eugenio Genco only scored 9 points but grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bacoor five.

"We knew that we were going to have a hard time dealing with a top-tier team like them. We got the impression that we could hang with the best of them with the way we performed against the (Ninja School) Dropouts. I guess this brought us back to earth." says team manager TheDogMan.

The Blades remain in sixth place with a 2-4 win-loss record. They were coming off an impressive performance on the road although falling short to league-leading Dropouts prior to meeting CleMeNZas. They will face Unstoppable Titans in their next league assignment.

Blades "not a good road team" says manager

The Bacoor Blades are currently at the sixth spot in the Big 8 Conference in Division III.1 with a win-loss record of 3-9. One noticeable stat however, is that all three of their victories so far in the season came at The Bacoor Forum. Which underlines their struggles away from their home floor.

"We are not a good road team." says team manager TheDogMan. "It's not bad to win at home, that's actually an obligation of the team to its home crowd. But to not win on the road at all is unacceptable."

In their six road games so far this season, the Blades have only scored 73 points on average, while allowing the home side to score over 95 a game - a 22 point differential. All this contributing to the fact that they are yet to win in six tries away from the City of Bacoor.

There were instances when they had a chance but faltered in the end, like their 75-85 loss to Pilipinas Quasars and their much talked-about 87-90 loss to Big 8 leaders Ninja School Dropouts. But the rest of the way were scenes of the Blades catching the wrong end of a beating to the home teams. These include a 61-119 shellacking delivered by (̅_̅(̲̲̲̲̲̅̅̅̅̅̅(̅м̲̅a̲̅я̲̅()ڪے as well as a 43-69 loss to Tribe of Arms, their lowest scoring output of the season so far.

Last season was not good either, they only won one road game in the regular season, against a Fhrytans team that forfeited the game as well as majority of the games last season. They also won another road game against a severely depleted Ball Crushers lineup in Game 1 of their Best-of-Three relegation series.

"It sucks looking at it. And as much as I would like to give a reason as to why this is so, I can't, for even I am baffled." says Kelly Paul, the Blades co-captain and starting PF. "We can only keep on playing and trying to get that breakout win on the road since we've been losing a lot lately."

After hosting Bmeg Derby Ace Llamados on Saturday, their next assignment would be on the road against Bellikoi on the 19th, after the All-Star break.

Dimov bows down of Three-Point Contest

Iliya Dimov, the Bacoor Blades' lone participant in the entire All-Star festivities, failed to make it to the final round of the Three Point Shooting Contest held last January 18, 2013.

The Bulgarian hotshot only managed to garner 17 points, five points shy of the qualifying mark of 22 points, set by Jun Wesley Sorongon of CleMeNZas Spaghetti Sauce. The high score though in the preliminary round was set by Telamonas Papadakos of Unstoppable Titans, which set up the final round between the two gunners.

The final round ultimately saw Sorongon edge out Papadakos by a point, 19-18 in a close affair that saw gasps and awes from the crowd as Sorongon sank the 2-point worth money ball of the final rack to seal the deal.

Blades legend Saady to be first consideration in the Hall of Fame

Blades legend Insa Saady could possibly be the very first player to be inducted to the Bacoor Blades Hall of Fame, says team manager TheDogMan.

"We are obviously grateful not only to what he was able to do to the team, but with what he was able to do for the franchise, the community and the city." the Blades top honcho added.

The former Bacoor forward appeared in 65 league games for the franchise, which is well-above the minimum requirement for Hall of Fame consideration of 44 league games, where he normed 22.3 points on 49% shooting, including a 37.2% clip from beyond the three point line, 5.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game, all within an average of nearly 43 minutes per contest.

When asked regarding the recent development, the roster was quick to exalt and comment on Saady's contributions

"He was the most complete player to ever wear a Bacoor Blades jersey. He single-handedly carried this team on his shoulders the first two seasons that he was here. It was only on his final year that he actually got more than enough help from the rest of the team. He's a first ballot for me no doubt." said Kelly Paul, who along with skipper Mark Hugos, inherited the captaincy from Saady.

"Heart and Soul namin siya eh. Siya yung identity nung team. Kung paano siya maglaro, malamang sa malamang ganun ang magiging laro namin." said Hugos, who admitted that Saady was a mentor to him both on and off the court.

"Dumating kasi siya sa amin na nag-champion na siya. Kaya marami na siyang karanasan pagdating sa bigtime. Siya yung leader namin at sa kanya talaga kami tumitingala."

"He was the engine - the motor that kept the machine running." said Eladio Martin, who had to play under the shadows of Saady as his backup.

"He can shoot, he can drive to the hole and attract double teams, and when he does get double-teamed, he has a knack to pass the ball at the right person at the right time." the 6'8" Spanish international continued.

"The Princeton ultimately worked because of him." says Iliya Dimov, who was Saady's shooting rival at practice. "We used to challenge ourselves by shooting up to 11. The chances of me winning were always slim to none. And that motivated me until I was able to beat him one time that really boosted my confidence."

"Regardless if he was shooting the ball efficiently or not, regardless if he was scoring a lot or not, other teams always had to check him for he was able to contribute in a number of ways besides scoring." said Tim Puckett.

"I believe that was the key to success of out team back then. The respect level teams give to him is so high. But even so, as I've said, he can help in a lot of ways. That made him special." said Eugenio Genco, who became part of the team at the tail-end of Saady's stint with the Blades.

"We do not want to pre-empt anything. We want to give him this honor at a time when he can truly appreciate it. And the rest of the management believe that this is not yet the time. But for sure, given the fact that he is eligible, we are strongly considering him as our first inductee." said team manager TheDogMan.
