They need to do what miami did when they were zoned. Wade and LBJ doing random cuts. They've got the best point guards in the league so cutting to the basket shouldn't be difficult with passers like Paul and Williams.

Why not, but they won't get a shot in the paint. The defensive help will come and they'll have to kick the ball out.

Then comes the existential question: can they hit open threes? These guys are super-players: they can create their own shot without any difficulty. However, they're not the best spot up shooters in their league. If USA had a couple of Steve Novak / Ray Allen type players, they'd not have any trouble there.

That's why I don't like USA players: they're certainly the best but they're all used to play the same role.

That'd be more or less my ideal USA team (regardless of who's interested or not in joining the team):

Paul / Williams
Allen / Bryant
James / Durant
Love / Garnett
Bynum / Duncan

Aussies left their run too late against Brazil. Waited until the defecit got out to 11 before risking their shots and brinign it back to within 2 points with a minute to go. Mills shot poorly.

I totally agree! Australia had a fine game against a top team. Mills need to calm down and give the ball to Andersen :p

Do we have anyone who can consistently hit the 3? Seemed to be struggling for most of the game in that area

Honestly I don't know the aussie team very well. I've seen Andersen playing in Italy, though.

It's hard to win a FIBA game without a knockdown 3pts shooter. You need to space the floor. From what I've seen during that game and what I knew about Andersen, you gotta play some iso for this bloke. I think Dellavedova and Ingles can hit threes and Pat Mills can be the cutter. Then you just play it patient with the ball in Andersen's hands.

Mills isn't a good shooter and he took so many jump shots. However he looks like an amazing cutter / driver. He has to share the ball!

First day's quick first look

Nigeria - Tunisia: 2 weak teams, lacking skill and physical presence. Poor play.

Brazil - Australia: It was entertaining to watch, both teams playing with intensity. However, poor overall shooting from both sides. These 2 look strong.

USA - France: the favourite won easily but France showed some good things. They will only get better.

Spain - China: a shooting clinic. Spain was dominating without putting too much effort. China had a couple of players coming up with a sensational performance.

Russia - GB: While I expected Russia to be a very good team, I didn't imagine they'd be that strong. However, I'd like to see how these guys do against a better team. GB will clearly struggle in this tournament.

Lithuania - Argentina: Argentina's ballin'!!!! I was very disappointed by the lithuanian's side, who could not hit long jumpers. They weren't dominating inside. Valenciunas looked shy. These guys need to step up or they could go on holydays earlier than they think.

I hate point guards that do not try and get their team mates involved, and Pattrick Mills is becoming one of those players! Seriously does any Aussie point guard know how to pass? Can any of the bigs catch a ball without fumbling it first?? OMG

All Mills is, is fast. He can't shoot. Doesn't know how to run an offense that isn't a 1v1 isolation or pick and roll (however even then he doesn't look to pass). Disappointing.

Joe Ingles is playing like out best player and he probably is! Can do everything well, a team player, and just an all around skilled hustle player. Shoots, rebounds, passes and gives solid effort on defence.
