Very good point - not sure they will, however under the circumstances that it can be offensive and inappropriate I would agree that they should.

I agree. The BBs should change this. The name conjures up racist history of the Klan and the Equal Rights Movement in the South.

I understand your point and maybe they'll change it. But it is a real last name. And it isn't uncommon. I did a search on facebook and there were over 30 "Robert Coon" and over 30 "James Coon" although only 2 "Marvin Coon". Now that is just facebook (white pages don't give a count). I live in a very small town about an hour and a half from Minneapolis. I checked our phone book and we have 9 people by that last name. A few years back, the town of Coon Rapids, Minnesota had a rumor that they were considering changing the name of the town. They didn't though. I'm not trying to down play your feelings, but I don't feel that someone with the last name Coon should feel that their name is offensive. Things should be looked at in context. Everyone knows that your name is a reference to a legendary college basketball coach and not a reference to a man getting a little excited over a woman. Just my perspective.

That being said if your offended I hope they change it.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I know it's a real last name. And Niger is a country in Africa. But perhaps both aren't necessary in a virtual basketball game?

Sorry, I reread this and it sounds a bit harsh. Not meant to be, just think it might be a little more PC to be considerate with names that may be taken out of context.

Niger isn't an offensive word. The offensive word has two g's and would be inappropriate. I was just stating that you need to take things in context. Calling a black person who isn't named "Coon" is offensive. But a person or town named Coon is fine. Besides, I'm not trying to say they shouldn't change it. But if my name was Coon, I would be offended by what you said (essentially that my name offends you) so I thought I should say something. But BB can change it if they want.

No matter where you go, there you are.

No problem. I've just never been very PC but I'm not put off by it... my wife still likes me at least.

It makes for colorful play by play. Speaking of which, I've noticed that occasionally there will be no assist on these play by play calls:

1. X goes up and catches an alley oop and scores.
2. X catches in the corner and goes straight up, and scores.

I can imagine some instances where a player may catch a pass in the corner, not dribble, wait, wait and then shoot. And then no assist would be granted. But I can't imagine an alley oop without an assist . . . unless he's catching his own pass?

Otherwise I think the play by play is very good and interesting. Though, I hope they will add some variation in the future to keep things interesting.

It's a real name - our DB in the US comes from census records.

However, it's not our intent to offend people, so we've removed that name from the database and we'll be renaming the existing players.
