I'm not saying the defense is back on track, but taking the highest scoring team in the league and holding them to their season low of 87 points does me some good. I'll have a better view of the defense after we play the always high octane GloryBoyz. Nice job on defense, but I am not sold yet.

That's not to say we don't still have issues.

We got absolutely stomped on the boards. Today, we could shoot straight. That's not guaranteed to happen again; I've seen that consistently with this bunch. If we can't rebound, we'd better make shots. It would be nice to do both in the same game. We turn the ball over too much. We don't shoot free throws well.

Of course that likely means Ruff Ruff bounces us out of the National Tournament on Thursday. It absolutely wouldn't surprise me. The consistent thing I can bank on with this team is the inconsistency.

I said earlier that if we can't score, we'll make sure you don't either. We believe we can score, but we're still going to make sure you can't.

Now watch GloryBoyz absolutely boatrace us...

The inconsistency is nothing if not predictable. At least I got my training minutes for my guys I needed.

I was surprised we were able to pull that off. It did mean I had to kill my guys for minutes and my enthusiasm because I crunched it. Only thing I can think that really contributed was ignoring minutes and playing my 3 elite defenders (all with wonderous or better OD)

I can't say I was surprised. I went to get guys training minutes, and was betting the guys I put on the floor would be good enough. I got what I needed out of that game training minutes wise, but was clearly thinking I'd get far better offensive performances from Ralph Tamm, Soeren Gubatanga, and Honorijus Audinys than I got. Credit to your defense. My 2 best shooters on the floor went a combined 8 of 29 from the floor and 3 of 14 from the three point line. Your perimeter defense was on point.

Given that we were training outside shooting, I figured to let the shooters shoot. Didn't work out because of your defense. I tip my cap to you.

I see we have another meeting, also on your home court at season's end. I look forward to beating you, er, meeting you then.

The inconsistency is real.

After an awful shooting performance in the National Tournament, Honorijus Audinys and Raul Tamm made buckets tonight from the outside and we didn't get boatraced by the GloryBoyz.

That press of theirs was something. (To think I almost matched them and went to the press, but decided against it...) We owned the boards and had our best shooting performance of the season. Which means when we face Sharks 13, the bricks will be chucked...

49 points separate the top 3 defenses in terms of points allowed, all 3 are in the Great 8, and the 2 in front of me have already beaten me once.

My goal of wanting to allow the fewest points in the league is gonna be tough to accomplish. My other goal of wanting this team to be playoff ready? That won't be so difficult. We just need to level up a player or two, then adjust our rotation accordingly.

We're confident in announcing that Zvi Kenet and Jacob Chacon will not be active for playoff games. We're confident in that we know where our scoring will come from; we're just confirming some things at this point. We know what our weaknesses are and have been addressing them. We are confident in our ability to match up with whomever we face in the playoffs. We have the versatility we need. We just need to avoid injury, and see which players step up to make themselves key parts of our rotation. Prudence Masuecos walked in and was indispensable; it's time for Raul Tamm and Arout Hairigyan to step forward. Or Juan Jose Gallardo. If one of them takes the step forward I'm looking for, good. If two of them do, great. If all three do?

That would unlock some combinations I honestly wasn't expecting to see before next season. This season started off pretty rough for us, but I think we're going to be just fine.

And if somehow we wind up outside of the playoffs by season's end (which is very much still a possibility), things will not be pleasant in Linndale. And we will make the opposition suffer for it.

But back to the defense...

We're still tightening things up on that end. Once we do, and we will, we'll see if we're as good as we think we can be. The rematches against Detroit and Andersonville (in back to back games, no less) will tell us a lot. (I see you looking like a trap game, Page 2.)

I now return my focus to the Las Vegas Red Pandas.
