The hungarian U21 manager contacted me for one of my player, and he uses something I never thought about for communicating with managers: a private facebook group.
I think it's an awesome idea, something to think about for U21/NT Canada?

what's the advantage of a FB group vs a forum site?

I think anything that has a simple layout to show the depth chart, training plans and strategy discussion would work

People are more inclined to go on facebook and see notifications from a group while they are there, than visiting a forum on purpose (works great in the beginning, not so much afterwards, there's a reason all the previous attempts are now abandoned, when is the last time anyone has been on the united english nations forum that we shared with england and NZ and Australia a few years back?!)

With a facebook group, the information comes to you, you don't have to be actively looking for it

my 3 questions would be:

1) what if someone doesnt want to share their FB identity
2) how would it prevent “spying” from other countries
3) how would it be be any more advanced than using the old regular BB foruns (ie here)

1) that's a problem ;) But you could create a fake facebook account just for that (just like you would create an account on an external forum)
2) private group = an admin must approve everyone before they can see anything
3) using bb forums would be the best, but back to point 2 about other countries "spying", although if it's on BB forums I wouldn't call it spying

In other words its principle are similar to offsite forums, only with the added benefit that most of us have facebook accounts thus the information in the group would be directly in our feeds. It should boost participation compared to an external website where you specifically have to go to participate

Will you go more often on a Canada U21 offsite forum? ;)

Anyway I just wanted to share something other nations are doing, MC new forum is fine

Yeah that's what happened everytime before sadly. You can't really discuss specific points/strategies in here, and an offsite requires a full commitment from the U21/NT coach to keep things moving.

Yea, I think it will really depend on the U21 / NT manager to at least post here before every game / update that theres a new post off-site

This forum can serve as the notification feature to drive traffic off-site

I have seen the off-site rise and fall, I am not a huge fan of forum style community, but it is one of the better options, unless someone wants to maintain a real website

I personally really like all the benefits a FB group could bring but at the same time I would lean towards an off-line Forum for this purpose, just my 2 cents
