Just basing on history of the Philippines team playing in 2nd chance qualifiers I do not think we ever have won to advance to the worlds. The only way we got to the worlds was placing 1st or 2nd in the Asian Championships (which nowadays is really hard). Not saying its impossible. Its just that European and American teams are really good. There is nothing to be ashamed off.

My suggestion is change the way teams train their U21 players. The previous U21 managers wouldn't accept/discouraged mono skilled players which for me isn't bad for U21 setting. While it will be bad for our national team imho U21 can use players with very high primary skills even tho their secondaries are so so. That is based on the U21 players we used to have many seasons ago.

I do not know if its still an issue nowadays before team owners were afraid of high salary so they don't want to train primary skills that high also.

If you are here for the long run next season should be better. At least you can now start to use the new players you helped train which will fit to your style of play. Good luck!

Hey thanks for your advice. If you notice salaries are way higher this season than the last one. Because of your same idea, having more primaries.
Rios is a beast, but also the others are really nice. As I said we are growing and my goal is Asia championship with this season 18yo players. Next season it will be hard because we completely lack of big men except gavadan which is in u21 right now too.
You are right, I see many players trained on one on one sf pf, which is good but when the time comes they are multiskilled but less effective than world best teams because of low primaries.
This is something I am working on, now managers are focusing more on single role training and primaries. And I hope to get reward in the future rosters πŸ˜‚
BTW we carried usa to the overtime in a game we should have won. I hope the game entertained you all a bit. To see something good in a loss.

Fourteen lead changes, ten times it was a tied game. It was game of runs and lost leads as the final score belies how this game was as close as any.

Howell Rios bullied his way to the tune of 25 points and 15 boards but will be frustrated as it was not enough to carry the Philippine contingent to an upset win over their USA counterpart.

Gilas made it close all throughout the regular quarters but it took USA an extra five minutes to pull away from the fighting Filipinos.

After falling behind by five points in the first twelve minutes Gilas managed to take the lead in the ensuing quarter after Catolico's strong driving layup made it 33-32. They managed to hold off the Americans with the narrow three point lead heading into halftime but USA stormed back and locked the scores at 64 entering the final canto.

Philippines felt like an upset was in the books when Jefferson fouled Catolico with just thirteen seconds left. Catolico calmly made both free throws to lift the gap to 94-91. But USA was not to be denied as Jefferson made up for his previous blunder by making a tough three-pointer to tie game with eight seconds remaining on the game clock. Salinas managed to sneak into the lane as time expired but his layup attempt was foiled by Deal and missed it entirely.

The situation was different in overtime, after Javier's layup that temporarily gave Gilas the lead, they all but lost the fight as USA fired off consecutive baskets to push the gap to fourteen heading in into the final buzzer.

Johnny Naquin lead the Americans with 23 points and five assists in his U21 debut. Center, Chris Prater had only 2 rebounds but replacement Terry Sparks came in and grabbed 12 boards as consolation.

Gilas debutants Obligacion, Bernal and Catolico all made good impressions on their first game according to sports pundits, an exciting show despite the loss. Obligacion had 9 rebounds to go with his 13 points, Bernal accomplished a double-double with 13 points and twelve rebounds, meanwhile Catolico, who almost won in for the Filipinos with this steady play, had seven dimes.

Overtime with USA. Huge match with italy in which we arrived at the final crazy minute behind by only 3 points.
And yesterday blowout win against al jazair.
We are growing, this team is really good and I am fairly incline to say that a bit of luck could have launched us to the world championship. Or at least closer.
But what is done is done, time to focus on the consolation with the prize to cash in order to have home court next season.
Our future roster will be way worse than this one, I assume low talented generation but we have room for improving and if we manage to get the hca then who knows, something good can come out.
But the future can wait, it's time to celebrate Rios πŸ˜‚ 12 on 12, perfect game for him.
Authentic beast and I assume this season the mvp vote will be boring πŸ˜‚
