Cant be too choosy with opponents when you make the final 64 in the tournament, so in the scheme of things, its definately a winnable game for both HAs (Home Axis v Hopelessly Addicted) and I guess my team was lucky enough to get drawn the home court

Not happy with what my sniping opponent did tonight

Took out my second string centre (whom I started) after 1 minute which meant that my reguler starting centre come on and clocked up too many minutes.

His presence on the court made the game too one sided which also stuffed up the minutes for several other players in the team.

Back to the tournament I've just done some quick calculations. 21 of the 31 games in this coming round of the tournament will be won by teams against whom Id be confident that my team could be competitive against, if they could win next Thursday night.

That said the principle focus for HA will be the next league game which is against SBV and is more of a must win game than what the next cup game will be.

Final 64 in the cup is nearly good enough for the fan survey to get crowds in for the league games for the rest of the season

Ladder position will ultimately mean more to my team than what making the top 32 or 16 in the cup, which is as high as I could realistically aspire my team to achieve.

My team would get crunched should they came up against one of the better ABBL teams so I dont know how much effort I should dedicate to the cup going forward from now on, especially as to do so might cost my team league games

Losing league games affects ladder position and probably has a downside on crowds that might not be offset by the upside of proceeding an extra round in the cup

Look on the bright side Sid, at least you didn't get randomly crunched by a random in division III. It happens to me every single season. I think everyone else in the world must value the cup a lot more than me.

Wild Turkeys looked like the only team trying out there.

And in all this talk about how you intimidated everyone, have you ever mentioned that there was one team that stood up to the challenge and came within 5 points of going to the ABBL instead of you and probably would have if not for a very famous lie (not by you)?

Looks like you are doing a teriffic job this season and your league is a lot more fun and active than it was last season. Great work!

Yeah with this forum having more than double the posts of the last 2 seasons combined already.

I guess it was all business with WA, Canberra Crushers, Me and Shanmag and we didn't want to discuss our team's plans with our opponents in the forums so we stayed quiet ;)

Actually thats a valid point dear Yoda.

Yourselves and Smeltztroopers certainly did have a dip.

Bit of trivia yourve had 523 more rated posts than I and this forum still has 23 posts less on it than II.3

Better invite some of the old gang over to say hello

I admit that whether it be my aging memory or my just plain ignorance, but I wasnt aware of a very famous lie.

Any chance that you might be able to enlighten me as to this famous lie?

Do miss the likes of yourself, Violator, Smeltz and ofcourse my old adversary in Beechy, but all that said there are some true characters on this board.

I actually was able to decipher a small part of one of Nevada Saucers most recent posts

Some good up and coming coaches in the making too in this league, speaking of which it looks like the Vic Magees are shaping up very strong as well in your league.

How does a team like his enter div 2 from div 3 with such a decent sized stadium?

Competition is definately getting stronger every season

Actually some of the coaches from this league have been good fun and seem pretty decent folk as well.

Any thoughts on how I can get my team with its lack of serious money, past Glenelg Tigers by the end of the season?

If I was to get serious and have another dash at promotion, then there is going to be a time where I make some serious sales and acquisitions.

Say hi to all my old friends back in II.3

Hope I dont become available to scrimmage them for a few more weeks yet.

As for Mr Monkeybiz its nice that you have directed a few kind words to the good folk on this forum.

Business for me often involves a little bit of gamesmanship which might have something to do with the occassional nature of my posts.

Did you amuse the "purists" with my ambitions to win the ABBL championship with my team in season 20?

Mr Managocango, could you please do me a kind favour.

Much appreciate if you could kneecap that work colleague of yours who stuffed up my teams playing minutes in that last cup game.

Bracing myself for less than favourable gameshapes when the training report comes in

Mages was stuck in III.6 with me for a number of seasons and we both had some time to build our stadiums, though i've still got some work to do. Mages is a very good manager, and i wouldn't be surprised if he promoted to the ABBL in the next season or two.

There are a lot of managers in the old III.6 the probably deserve to be in Div II ahead of some who currently are. One guy, PC, has just missed on promotion the last two season after he came up against me, then Axis, and now this year he's had Naker land in his division. The guy can't catch a break but has slowly gone about developing two stud big men who are still young and have great skill sets.

Then there's guys like Richmond, and mmm donuts who could promote. One thing is for sure, my team in III.6 prepared me for entering in Div II nicely.

It's got a good group of managers in there as well, and it's looking like we've got a good group in here now to, well more talkative anyway. HA you've been a welcome addition in here, i must say.

Great posts by all four of you and it is great to see the old III.6 guys doing so well and here is more piece of trivia to add to the story. Possum Pete was from IV.7 the same as me and ezlife (who I played in the SF in my first season), then I went to III.6 (where I played the Redbacks in the QF in my second season), then in my thrid season I was with MonkeyBiz in this league where injuries and WA IS A DUMP got me relegated, when I came back up into division II I ran into the massive spending of HA who knocked me out by 5 in the SF and he got the trip to the ABBL. So funny that I have so many links with you all!

You want four degrees of seperation, well I have one from all of you!

Oh and MangoCango was my "mentee" when I was an assistant with the U21 team even though he already knew exactly what he was doing.

If you don't know the famous lie I wont repeat it, forget it, better to spread good news than bad.

Great work on deciphering the Wigga speak but watch out it is catching and ezlife is speaking it now too!

Your league looks very tough and Glenelg is far from your only threat, the All-Stars and Vultures look scary as heck as well and by my count there are five more teams that could make a push if they have a little cash in the bank.

Hi Yoda

Your most welcome to send a bb mail to me concerning the lie that was told to you if you feel uncomfortable posting it on a forum.

Got to say Im proud supporter of the mighty swans regardless of how they play, but today Im even more proud than usual for how they gutsed out a couragious win against Geelong, especially given the emotional week they have endured with the death of the month old child of a co captain.

Also very happy with how my HA team had a great win against the ominous and expensive starting line up of SBV.

Thought they were gone in the second quarter

My yo bro also had a good win.

I wonder if he's having any regrets about auctioning of more than half his roster?

Barring Managerial stuff ups, Glenelg Tigers will be season17 Champions in II.2.

Income has to be over 500K

His last gate was just under 340K (HAs last gate jumped by 35K up to 318K for the same week- but HA pays 45K a week more in players salaries)

Glenelg Tigers has to be making 110 to 120K profit a week and he has a crop of young trainees on top

The HA team has exceeded expectations for playing performances and crowd attendances but sadly I cannot envisage them achieving the seasons overall goal being promotion, if G_D pulls the right strings as he should

Best be careful how I train the players from now till the end of the season, otherwise I wont be able to afford to keep them all on the roster next season

You guys are all stuck with me for another season at least and all other plans I had, will be pushed back at least a season.

I'm starting to think that it's time for me to reconsider my roster structure. My depth has been beneficial at times when having players get into foul trouble, but my starting 5 just doesn't seem to be matching up well enough against other starting 5's.
Is it time to focus on training, or time to bring in some new stars to bolster my starting 5????

Given i'm currently losing money thanks to poor attendance figures, something needs to change if i'm going to take some positive steps this season.....

I'm not in the hunt for the title, but don't want to risk getting demoted....There's some tough choices ahead as there are a lot of evenly matched teams in the league this year.

Interesting dilema.

Personally I have an excel spreadsheet set up where I can experiment with ticket prices and attendance so as to determine an optimum price and to assist in budgeting. (also helps to give me an idea of who the real competitors are)

Appears early in the season you may have been caught with your prices a little high. (2nd season you lose the attendance boost)

On face value yourself, Broomtime and Nevada Saucers have well balanced rosters with depth, however without looking at the players its hard to determine whether the players offer "bang for bucks"

Having a strong starting five is ok and probably necessary to promote, but unless you have some depth those players will soon lose gameshape.

Having a good Small Forward is a real advantage in this game and IMO is a neccessary commodity if you wish to promote, but is the hardest position to fill or train and is arguably the shortfall of many div 2 teams.

HA's Small Forward Pedrosa, I believe does give the team a competitive advantage over some teams who might have a more expensive roster

By my sums your attendance last game was $269,542 (slighlty less than the $276,824) and your players salaries are $338,413.(Slightly more than the $298,849)

Assuming your merchandise is 40K you should have $85,680 to cover Staff, scouting and profit.

If your not making a profit then your spending to much on staff & scouting.

A common strategy for when you are battling to stay out of the demotion zone is that you only attempt to win the games that you can win and that you dont waste anything on games you cant.

Impossible to give informed advise without having a good look at your players.

At the end of the day Im probably not the right person to advise you anyhow as I had to buy 3 beasts in to promote out of div II.3 and nearly went bankrupt in the process.

Up until then HA was a bit like BroomTime, competitive for a long period of time but not really threatening to promote (At least BroomTime as compared to HA, built a proper size stadium whilst in div2- HA wasted too much money on staff)

Your thought process about having a focus for the season is admirable and I reckon is the way to go.

If the window of opportunity for promotion is not there because of the presence of the likes of Glenelg Tigers, then set other goals such as to develop the stadium to a certain size or to save "x" amount of $ or to acquire a player of a certain type or to focus your training on a couple of players.

Increasingly it is becoming more common for teams to strip their teams for a season so as to save money and gain better quality draft picks.

I dont agree with this defeatist like tanking approach which teams like Carlton, Melbourne, Stkilda and Collingwood have used in the AFL, but in retrospect I could of done this last season and entered this season with 3 or 4 mill in the bank instead fighting in vain to stay up and commencing this season with a negative bank balance.

Last season and the start of this season hasnt been a total loss for HA however as the stadium has grown from around the 14k mark to close to the 20k, a couple of future ABBL standard players were acquired as well as several value for money depth players and lots of managerial experience from the school of hard knocks (otherwise known as the ABBL).

Good luck whatever you do
