Newcomer Steve Cebedo lead the junior team in scoring, him and club teammate Josemar Ecle combned to score 44 points including five three-pointers from Cebedo. Six other players scored in double digits as they routed Indonesia on their way to a 129-75 win last Monday. Brin Ocampo came out of a shooting slump and scored 20 points against a relatively passive Indonesian squad who only scored 29 points in the first half. Pepe Macalinag got his game going with a double-double, 13 points and fifteen boards and three blocks as consolation.
This win lifts the Philippines to a 4-1 record with a +127 point difference ahead of Australia and Hong Kong. It also guarantees the Philippines at least a bronze medal finish and a path to the semi-finals to face China who is ranked 10th in the world. The semi final game will be played this Friday.
Widayat Nusstanyo top-scored for Indonesia with 16 markers but barely making half of his shots from around the perimeter. Fellow wingman Usman Mawan made better use of his open looks as he scored seven of his twelve attempts to finish the game with 14 points. He also had five of Indonesia's six steals. The rest of the team didn't fare any better as they were outscored 28-9 to end the second quarter. This marks Indonesia's fourth loss in five games as they bow out of the tournament and lament on getting better next season.
