As you are not playing your best players as start players twice a week as well as you might play them out of position for both game shape and training reasons the MVP award could actually be to a pretty average player. I have trained my small forwards as shooting guard or point guard which is a clear example of how difficult it is to always perform at top with your top players. For such reason I think that the MVP award are not reasonable to use as a criteria for sponsor money and similar issues.

i think that MVP contenders will get some bonus too in that case.

and if salary is included, then it is tree with 2 ends. in one end is salary, but in other end is this situation when a lot of players sell out their expensive centers, because they play like C with 2 or 3 times less salary. and why leagues needs to be punished by this in that way that they get less money?

I see all your points and they are good, I also understand that merchandising is based off the team. My question was though is it the league that is negotiating the contract? the quote from the news bulletin is...

"Starting at the all star break this year, every league will be negotiating its TV contract independently, and leagues in larger divisions or with more superstars will be able to make deals with larger TV networks, making it possible for more people to follow their team from the comfort of their home".

So your points on mvp's and things like that are moot, because every league has a mvp and all of that. Unless of course it is a team by team basis that the contract is negotiated.

My understanding of the above quote though is the league does it so to my understanding that would mean that every team in the league gets the same amount correct? That was my question.

That, however, would essentially be a strategic choice: do you go for the maximum benefit from training or sponsors/merchandising. Generally, a choice which is obvious (such as, go for maximum training AND sponsor money VS. choose to not take money from training and/or sponsors) is not a real choice and adds absolutely nothing to the game. It's better to not have such options available since they only make the interface more cluttered which is bad especially for those who spend little time in the game. (Of course, some choices may be simply for fun and are therefore beneficial to the game.)

Overall, I think it would make the game more fun if there was a stronger incentive to play your top guys night in, night out. Balancing training minutes, game shape, and often playing your best players out of position is a challenge, which shouldn't be removed altogether, but there should perhaps be better options to that model.

You'd have to throw a lot of money at an MVP to create a strategy that would be a viable long-term alternative to training and selling players. But I agree in principle.

My understanding, and the only way I think the new system will make sense, is that each league will negotiate its own contract. The value of each contract will depend on (a) the salaries of the players in the league, and (b) the division in which the league plays. Each team within the league will receive the same share of the total contract.

(Obviously talking on the general level here, not about the MVP selection only.)

What is the logic behind that? Kobe would sell millions of tickets even if he was in France or China....while Dirk sells out Dallas everynight even though he is German. I think a star is a star no matter what nationality...people will pay to see good players period.

Trust me it makes a difference, ask how many Pheonix jersey's in Canada don't have Nash on the back! And if he had signed with the Raptors he would easily become the most popular Rap of all time. It is a hard ticket to get, and the scalpers charge just a little bit more than normal for it.
