Collecting volunteers or maybe using conscription. Reach more people.

The problem with communication is that it is two ways. I can only put up so much stuff and send so many messages.

I'm only looking at this through my perspective and I know it's not totally fair to you. So you may have done a helluva job with other trainees, but in my situation I did not feel you did (of course, you were only the u21 coach later on in his trainee). I would have trained Rainey in any way-shape-or-form to help benefit the u21 team, but I was never really advised -- so I trained him up to the best of my D4-manager (at that time) ability.

I received two emails from you -

05-14-2010:

What are his skills currently at? I might call up a 20 yo or two for the upcoming game.

Thanks,
Jelme

and I responded:

Jelme,

I've been updating Rainey in the DB every time he pops. Is there any preference you'd like to see his trainee go? I'll train him in any area you feel best.

Ernie Rainey (10594579) Point Guard

Weekly salary: $ 16 052

DMI: 58400
Age: 20
Height: 6'2" / 188 cm
Potential: perennial allstar
Game Shape: respectable
Jump Shot: prolific Jump Range: proficient
Outside Def.: sensational Handling: prominent
Driving: prolific Passing: prominent
Inside Shot: average Inside Def.: strong
Rebounding: atrocious Shot Blocking: average
Stamina: pitiful Free Throw: respectable

Experience: pitiful

I never received a reply. In the second email sent by you to me on 7-14-2010 just before Rainey was called up to the team we did interact briefly on Rainey's trainee regiment, but by then his journey to the u21 team was over.

I did receive advise from FatCurry on the off-site forum in regards to Rainey, which I believe was before you were the u21 coach.

I'm only bringing up this issue because I want USA to have the finest program in BB and the person who fills the u21 position has to be extremely motivated because it requires a lot of work - which is one reason why I'll never run for the position.

You can kick me in the crotch for this post if you want, BUT has anyone else literally laughed out loud at some of the candidates that will randomly come in and say "Vote for me because I won D5"??? Most of the time everyone ignores them which makes it even better....ignorance is bliss! lol

As for the race, I feel like Jelme is just as tactically sound as anyone and is more well versed with the incoming talent pool. I will support him in the election, but I do feel Bobo is qualified. Possibly the next U21 if he doesn't win this term?

PS - I am one of those people itching to train a U21 player, but did not get a perfect trainee in the draft and haven't seen one I can afford in the TL. I do have a good 18 yo US trainee, but I am selling as he does not fit my current guard training plan....he has hall of fame potential so maybe he is more of a NT player. If he had better secondaries he would have been a better trainee as well...

I want to say first - everyone has a voice and knows how to use it. The smart ones pick and choose when to, the not so smart forget what they are supposed to be saying.

We have a massive group that needs to speak. Training, tactics, decisions on people, shooting the breeze..... involvement start with 1 post, 1 mail, 1 convo during a game. It's my hope to utilize all those methods and grow support. It's going to be tough for the people who don't have players on the team - so it's important to keep things light, motivate the US as a whole to get better, then when the one chance these managers do have the opportunity to train a guy, or win their division and want help we are all there.

It's within these ranks that future NT/U21 coaches are coming from. So volunteers who want to get involved are just as important as the person driving the bus. I would like to encourage the masses to get involved so it's much easier of transitions.

I have not talked to anyone about a "staff" position although I did receive 1 BB mail about wanting to help any way possible. That said, we need more people like him to just want to be around.

In short, I have to be where the people are (forums, in game chats, and mail) so the people can rally. This includes progress reporting and training forums (we used to announce the pops we got and we need to get back to that). Basically anything that makes us feel good about BB and the US teams.

Agreed

I won't hold him for not taking Gardner for U-21 against him.
