Hi all. I'm new to this game, and I'm just wondering if there's any recommended skill to start training with for new teams. Thanks. =)

All depends on what sort of tactics you want to use and what sort of a team you want to build.

Reading through the "Rules" section and then going through a bit of the major Help topics would be your best place to start and then you can come back here with some more specific questions to define your team.

Alright. Well first off, should I be looking to replace my Trainer straight away? In other manager games (i.e. Hattrick), I've found it to be one of the first moves for a new team. If so, what skill level should I be looking at?

And then for trainees - I'm assuming that they should be 18/19 year olds with at least average or so in the given skill?

That sounds about right... idd not bother with 19 year olds, and just go for 18, trainer: level 4 or 5, and since 5 is possible why not...

Youll prolly end up training several skills...

Cheers. How much should I be looking to spend on potential trainees?

I would have to say that i disagree. As a new player you should look for the best value for money. If i were you i'd be looking for 18/19yo with starter/star potential +. You'll also only want a lvl 4 trainer at the moment as the lvl 5 is only slightly better and not worth the money if you are only new to the game.
Serevi may be the only possible trainee on your roster at the moment. He's a SG so maybe look into getting other young Guards on the transfer list. Should get decent ones for about $150,000. You want about 5 trainees total (until you learn how to minute manage effectively) and train 2 positions (e/g. PG/SG)

You also need to fire players that you dont need. You only need 12/13 players on your roster so fire the worst 4/5. Prob get rid of:
Don Saunders - Dally Hudson - Romeo Nunes - Kelvin Morehu - Nghiem Vu - Alex Young - Neil Marshall At least. You wont sell any of them so just fire them. If you cant sell that guy you have TLd, i think you should keep him, seams like an ok player.

Once you get you're trainees up a bit, sell them and buy better ones and older 'quality' players (who are cheaper) for the positions you are not training.

Please BB mail me if you have any other Strat questions.

As much as you can do without without paying more than market average?

The market is very non translucent, unpredictable. But spend money on trainees rather than normal players.

What I thought might be a nice idea but I havnt tried is to buy all your trainees with the same flaw. E.g. Buy perfect Center trainees (tall, high potential, 18 and main skill resp/average) except for one very important skill, which is too low for other managers to consider these guys suitable trainees, hence their price is low. Since all your trainees miss this same skill you can train that very quickly untill they reach resp or something and then suddenly you have great trainees, for little money.

Defense is very important in this game, imo. If you dont plan on training D at first, make sure your trainees have SOME defense. I think D is the best start to training, personally

Defense is also one of the toughest skills to train so it is always good to look for players to purchase with a decent defense already to maximize training time/
